2025/26 Dwight McNeil

…..he was tasked with looking after Buendia as well as supporting Patterson, Moyes attention to detail he did the job the Manager asked and also played a key part in our goal.

So obvious why he starts over Dibling, hope posters are starting to understand this.

I said something similar the moment we spent £40mill on Dibbers that when it comes to it, we'll be looking towards McNeil due to his experience.

Hasn't played much but still has an assist, a goal involvement yesterday, and covers more ground than most players for either team.

He's very useful in a way of playing which is more on the backfoot.

….i’m sure the hope/plan was that Dibling would be much better than he has been, he’s clearly been a disappointment. At this point in time McNeil is clearly more effective which is why he plays. It’s up to Dibling whenever he next gets an opportunity to show his worth, he has to earn his game time.

Sorry mate, but aside from last night and bits against Forest away, the argument that McNeil is much more effective than Dibling is doing some heavy lifting.

I’m not saying Dwight didn’t do well last night, he played well after a slow start again, but he’s been one of the worst in our team for giving the ball away, not tracking runners and generally doing all the things that young Dibling has done, and been getting crucified for, in many of the games.

I agree, it’s up to Tyler to kick the door in and make himself undroppable performance wise for the manager and he clearly needs to do better, but he’s not had nearly enough minutes/opportunities or been particularly well managed by Moyes since we signed him.

Anyway, thanks for yesterday Dwight, so glad illy is back now.

Dibbers has had plenty of game time.

Disagree.

You’re calling 320 minutes here and there as “plenty”.

….sadly he has trouble getting past half-time in many of the games he starts, so quoting minutes played doesn’t mean much. We all want Dibling to be good, I’m sure most of us would prefer him to start but it’s difficult to see him doing the job McNeil did for the team yesterday, hence why Moyes goes for that option.

Currently McNeil is a better option than Dibling.

I think games like yesterday, it's very fair for McNeil to start ahead of Dibling. You can trust him to follow tactical instructions more than Dibling.

It's home games against the likes of Wolves where it should probably be Dibling over McNeil in my opinion though.

I agree with much of that Nath and I would love to see McNeil replaced but ( with the benefit of hindsight) Moyes got the selection spot on yesterday.

I don't believe that Dibbers would have been so tactically disciplined or worked as hard for the team as NcNeil

What good is it if he follows tactical instructions but gets ran past like a training cone and only passes the ball backwards?

Like I get it, people want him to also do well as he's a genuine and very likeable person, but he's the slowest and most 1footed player maybe in the league, genuinely hasn't kicked a ball with his right, makes him predictable, and on top of that he's incredibly slow.

Dibling has barely played (so he's "not ready", the self-fulfilling prophecy once again) and has done better or at least not worse than ExPeRiEnCeD McNeil, who follows instructions but does nothing with them in 99% of the time.

Would it be the same that he's poor if Barry (and Beto I think?) managed to finish those easy chances he laid on for them? He'd have equalled McNeil's assists in minutes on the pitch, then what's the justification?

Moyes doesn't like and has never liked young players and that's undeniable at this point, and any other manager would be playing Dibling a lot more, or move McNeil away from the wing where his weaknesses are even more on display.

He can’t past half time due to his lack of minutes, but I’m quoting minutes played to demonstrate he’s not played enough mate.

I can’t really fault McNeill for last night, even though he started slow again, and he worked really hard and caused the goal, but I think we could have used Dibling a bit more.

Can’t really argue with that jazz, the result was done to the 11 selected all playing well, but Dibling did well in the away games at Burnley and Forest recently, and helped the team, so for he should be starting ahead of Dwight. You can always sub him off if he’s having a shocker.
