I just have no idea where he fits in. He has no obvious strengths that make him stand out at this level.
He should be playing on the right and coming inside. It might not work, but you can look at his Burnley history and tell as a left winger he's pointless. Give him a run on the right and see if he can figure something out and go from there.

As it is we've done nothing to help him and shouldn't be surprised it isn't working.

I thought he was OK with the ball tonight but what made me mad was when he was twisting the full back inside out and had 2 clear opportunities to get the ball in the box.....but would have been with his right foot. He is so one footed it is detrimental

What do you think he’d do on the right, just out of interest? Cut inside and shoot, maybe get a few goals? He might be more inclined to link up with an overlapping Paterson, I suppose - Gordon or Gray seem incapable of clever link up play, just get their heads down and run.

On the other hand, he’s got no history as a goal scorer, his record is atrocious, players either have that goal scoring instinct or they don’t- not many suddenly develop into 10/15 a season players from nowhere. Am dubious playing him on the right will see him scoring much.

His whole thing has been playing on the left and to get crosses in - other than last season, he’s had 5,6,5 assists doing that in previous seasons. Problem is we don’t have enough players getting in the box to get in the end of a cross or anyone with great heading ability for him to aim at (except DCL and they rarely play together). All in all kind of nullifies him a bit. A really odd choice to bring in when we’d lost the goals and match winning ability of Richarlison. Just what we could get for little money upfront I guess.

Watched him closely yesterday, you know i can see why signed him, hes good at sitting in little pockets and creating triangles, its useful for getting in between lines for a give and go, he lacks penetration though and his final ball isnt great, maybe he has a bit of development in him, but his lack of presence lets him down a lot to and he can drift.

I see some logic, hopefully there is some development there, but im not sure hes a game changer who will have big influence on our results.

Exactly, he's neat and tidy rather than occasional bits of magic.

In our current predicament I'd honestly rather a team of McNeils than a team of Gordons and Gray's, both of whom have been poor for the majority of games.

I'll be honest - he was still miles above Gray last night. As others have said though it just seems like he still hasn't settled on the side he actually prefers.
