DRAW FOR THE NEXT ROUND

Me and mate mate have always said, throughout their premiership tenure, Boro were there to ruin other teams seasons. It always seemed to be away to Middlesbrough the likes of Man U would come unstuck. If I remember rightly, the season Liverpool only lost 2 games, one of them was away to Boro.

That said, we are the premiership team, we have the better resources, the better individual players and we should go into this game as favourites and we should win. However, we've been far from convincing in this run so far, we've limped over the line each time thanks to individual bits of brilliance or just poor opposition not putting our poor performance to the sword. I think we need to be at least a level above what we have been so far this season in this competition to progress.

It doesn't matter how you limp through the early rounds to be honest so long as we are through. It's how we perform at the business end that counts. Remember Oxford United away, Gillingham away, and University College Dublin away in 1984? Very inauspicious starts to what became an incredible period. Winning is all that counts. Being away from home with 6,000 of us behind them going nuts for every ball and every challenge the lads will come good against Boro.

In a strange sort of way I feel more confident about winning this tie for it being away rather than home.

And if we make the semi final I hope we are away in the second leg.

The two years we reached the League Cup final we played away in the semi second leg......against Bolton and Villa respectively.

And we were home in the second leg when we lost to Chelsea in the semi final four or five years ago.

We made the semi final one other time, losing to Arsenal.....I can't remember where the second leg was.

I would be so happy if we won this cup. Totally possible too.

I know the Europa league can be a drain on personnel and lots of Sunday fixtures, but this cup is on home soil, we've never won it, and it's actual silverware.

Winning this would be historic for the club. I think it's important to remember that.
