Downing to Villa

Fee agreed apparently- this worries me, Milner on one side, Downing on the other and Young maybe in a free role they could be very dangerous.

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Downing set for Villa move

Hang on, they've lost Barry and replaced him with Downing, they've lost their only class defender, and your plan involved playing their best player from last season in a totally different position just to accomodate Downing. On top on that they can't be as lucky with injuries again. Oh, and Downing is injured until October at least. They are still a long way off being as good as last year.

It's a strange signing for Villa, because they've only got one player who is decent in the air - Agbonlahor is useless aerially, and unlike us they don't have midfielders who can get in the box and compete. So Downing is going to aim his crosses at Carew, and nobody else?

Emile Heskey is still there....but my missus's lad is a Villa ST holder and he reckons the Lerner/O'neil bandwagon is coming to a halt. They certainly relied on pace last season. Zat Knight and Harewood are rumoured to be gong too. Money is tight at Villa methinks.

Very good player in my view. But if Villa are spunking £12m on him (claim the Mirror), then more fool them. I'm sure Moyes could handle £12m in a more productive way. Plus, Lordy above was bang on. Downing isn't what Villa need at this time. I don't think this strengthens Villa at all.

Haha my plan!

Im just saying that to me that looks a dangerous proposition in my mind- I rate downing and I think a move to another club will rejuvenate him, like most players at boro hes gone a bit stale.

I think Young would do well in an off the striker role instead of being fixed to a wing.

Without the luck they had last season Villa wouldn't have finished even close to us, they were spawny bastards throughout the whole season, it has to run out & if it does they'll be screwed.

As for Downing, good player but £12m is a lot of money & I'm not sure he's worth it

BTW, as I hinted at earlier, I actually think Downing would be a better player at Everton than at Villa, and I'd certainly take him at the right price. £12m is just too much though.

I don't think money is tight at all. Lerner has basically said the funds are available, but it's down to MON to spend it.

I think this means Young is off after the WC though. Unless MON actually realise 4-5-1 is more effective then 4-4-2.

Well, he might do well there, because he's a good player. However, for the first few months of last season, he was just about the best player in the league. If Villa are going to be a threat to us, he's going to have to match that, and it's a stretch to assume that ANY player can move to a different position without at least some drop in standards.
