Trumps supporters are confused as to why this is happening. That's because they don't understand him.

Trump doesn't care about your politics. Trump cares only about Trump. Therefore, if the Democrats are prepared to throw him scraps and be a "deal maker" in exchange for dropping alt-right ideals, then he'll do that. Because Trump wants to be seen as doing something.

The Dems have understood that. The Republicans have not. It's called narcissism.

That's exactly what he wants. He's "winning" something at last because by being "bipartisan" he can get things over the line. Therefore, Trump is doing something instead of failing in everything he tries with his alt-right nonsense.

So that's what the realisation is - Trump wants to win as Trump, for Trump; he no longer gives a toss about the Republicans. Or, to be blunt, he never did. Nor the Tea Party. Nor did he give a crap about white supremacists as long as he got use out of them and adulation. Their usefulness ended the moment he realised they couldn't help him get stuff done as president.

If Schumer and Pelosi agreed tomorrow to say "he's the best President we've ever had with big strong hands" and "all women find President Trump attractive, and so do I", he'd agree to become a Democrat.
