Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

See, that's literally the only way I can read the whole thing myself.

Quite literally a bunch of rich people happily booting the everloving crap out of the less well off with a grin on their face.

It's significantly worse than the Tories.
Don't worry the Tories will try this with the nhs.

Also, what are the dems like, chanting 'hey hey hey goodbye' in the house. US politics is interesting in a 'car crash' kind of way.

Because the penny is finally dropping with people that the GOP actually hates them and literally doesn't care if they all get sick and die. This bill was polling at below 20% with the public, that never happens. They will pay a terrible price.

I get why they did it and it's not going to effect the votes of any Dems but this goading does not play well for independents or moderate republicans. Waving and chanting at house members makes them seem as shallow and callas as those who passed the bill.

I'm more than ready for the blue team to fight dirty. They've been much too nice to these people for much too long. Get them to stop using 50-cent words in statements and speeches and maybe they'll get somewhere.

It is probably better for the Dems if the bill actually passes, for the reasons you suggest. But if any party anywhere in the world is capable of screwing up the opportunity this provides, it's them.

Gloating about this - the fact that Republicans are stupid/corrupt/doctrinaire enough to strip 24 million people of their health care - still looks terrible. And the Dems will almost certainly refuse to offer a convincing alternative. At best, they'll concede cosmetic tweaks to Obamacare, which their wonks will now be even more smug about, though voters know its still pathetic by the standards of the developed world (or these days even Thailand, Rwanda et al.)

If they campaigned in 2018 on universal health care, on a platform of "As Americans, you should at least have the right to be able to see a doctor," they could win in a 1964-esque landslide. But at heart they're also a corporate party. "Rich people who read books" is a much better brand of elite than the dark money ghouls who write cheques for the Republicans, but it's a niche constituency, and it doesn't get you far without the accompaniment of an inspired base.

As the modern Democrats' spirit animal Tony Blair has explained, "I wouldn’t want to win on an old-fashioned leftist platform. Even if I thought it was the route to victory, I wouldn’t take it."

Two things have annoyed me for years about this whole saga:

- The way the media just lapped up the name "Obamacare," which sounds sinister and shady

- That no one understood the reason the ACA didn't poll so well with the public. There were a lot of liberals who opposed it for not going far enough. I'd love single payer but it was always going to be a stair-step process getting there in this country.
