Even if you think this particular military action was justified, the glorification of war and death is pretty repulsive.

This is also a show that Trump regularly watches for feedback on his actions....

Unfortunately it's also a show that reaches people outside the U.S. and as such helps them form.their opinion of americans as gung ho, explosive, yeeha, kill the world mentalists.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning...

This is worth a read, and it's quick.

An excerpt:

This is the same problem, exactly, that the US had in Vietnam: it could drive its enemies underground using superior air power, and could win every stand-up fight, but – so what? The enemy wasn’t interested in stand-up fights, and could come and go where they wanted. In military terms “come and go where you want” means “control the battlefield.” Dropping GPS-targeted bombs from high altitude is a tacit admission that we can’t send troops in on the ground because they’re not safe. To any of us from the Vietnam generation, we immediately recognize this as “body counts” redux. What happens, when you’re losing a war, is the losers (who are supposed to be winning, and who are being paid to win) start coming up with metrics that make it more plausible for them to say they are winning.

Is he capable of making a public appearance without making a gaffe of some sort? When will they matter (to his base)? Imagine if Obama did half of the gaffes Trump did.

Obama will be shown to be the most ineffective President of all time. He allowed Russia, which had been severely diminished, to regain a position in the world, did nothing to stop China taking over the South China Sea, and will forever be remembered for his bottling of his 'red line' in Syria. North Korea developed nuclear weapons without reproach. He was an absolute weakling on the world stage and it will take some time for Trump or whoever comes next to undo the damage. Obama may well have been a nice guy and a decent orator, but history will not judge him well.........

Influence is not merely a military thing though, right?
