Yes, a bit wrong, but in this case also illegal. A "religious test" is unconstitutional, regardless of how many Americans or Presidents like the idea.

Trump voters might have a legitimate concern over what they perceive as rampant, uncontrolled immigration, but Trump has not approached the issue as an adult-minded politician but more as a racist demagogue. This is definitely an unpatriotic way to approach immigration in the USA, given that this young country is built on immigration (Trump's mom was born in Scotland and his grandfather was born in Germany). And since 1965, the US banned immigration based on religion or nationality. Trump reversed that, but not based on any seemingly rational policy, but one based on campaign-trail xenophobia; not to mention that Steve Bannon is a dead-beat dad and racist, and Trump's top advisor. One also wonders about the motivation. None of the home countries of the 9-11 hijackers were on his list of banned countries--and the countries left off his list also correspond to places where Trump has business ties or seeking them. But to be fair, the countries on Trump's list were already targeted for "restricted immigration" (not an outright ban, though) by the Obama administration in 2015. But more generally, there isn't much rationality or "rightness," if you prefer, to the idea that restricting or banning folks from a small subset of countries is going to do anything for national security or job creation...it's all theater, and thus perceived by many, including me, to be just plain wrong.

No, he has only banned Muslims from Shia-run (Iran, Syria, Yemen, Iraq) or minor Muslim (Libya, Sudan, Somalia) states. The main Sunni states are all unaffected, despite the ban being a response to fundamentalist terrorism that has overwhelmingly been carried out by the usual groups.
