Surely not. I’d love to know where that even came from, as it was an absolutely wild suggestion.
Even as a left leaning person, I certainly don’t think anyone and everyone should just have free access to all the IVF they want. It’s an extremely expensive procedure, and having the government pay for it will require either tax increases or siphoning money off from other programs (including possibly ones in place to help already existing children), and forcing insurance companies to cover it will only drive everyone’s already astronomical costs even higher.
I have absolutely no moral reservations about IVF, and am happy it’s available to help couples who truly want a child be able to conceive one of their own when they otherwise couldn’t. That said, it’s the very definition of an elective procedure, and for me, anyone who wants to do it should probably be paying for it themselves.
