I think it’s the most effective attack the Democrats have come up since Trump rode down that escalator almost ten years ago. His supporters get off on being outsiders, called deplorable, and threats to democracy. Also, a lot of people just don’t follow politics closely enough to tie all the threads together to really understand the threat they pose. But just about anyone can look at how they act, the stuff they believe, their attitudes towards women, minorities, the childless, etc. and see it for exactly what it is, f*cking weird. And they hate being called on it.
