[I realize he is joking]
Goebbel's says Hi, Mao claps vigorously, Stalin smiles.
On my street over half of the homes have big flagpoles with the American flag. The patriotic thing is crazy as coming to the states as an outsider, this country is ridiculously overly patriotic.
They play the national anthem at EVERY sports event and stand for it with hats removed.
Kids say the pledge of allegiance in school every morning, like they fear the kids may become commies overnight.
Flags are everywhere. People have legit flagpoles in their yard to fly the flag of the national the are in and have been in their whole life. Some houses fly bigger flags than actual government buildings. And business like to have huge flags to show how American they are. Bigger the better.
The pledge of allegiance was written by a minister (Francis Bellamy) who believed in the equal distribution of economic resources ; nowadays would be called an evil socialist hell bent on the destruction of the 'American Way'.The patriotic thing is crazy as coming to the states as an outsider, this country is ridiculously overly patriotic.

I’d never really considered it all that much till about five years ago. That’s when I first started coming over to the UK and going to football matches, and also around the same time we all started fighting over the etiquette surrounding the anthem. To an outsider I’m sure it seems ridiculous.Found it so bizarre last time I was in the States. My wife and I went to a baseball game, honestly, it felt like something out of North Korea (and yep, I did a tour to North Korea about twelve years ago, was incredibly interesting) - national anthem played pre-match, everyone in the crowd snapped to attention, standing up with hats off and hands on hearts. Then there was five minutes where the PA introduced some veterans who had served overseas in Iraq/Afghanistan, their length of service, where they served, what unit, etc. The overly-enthusiastic cheering and clapping from the crowd, I just found a bit strange.
There's patriotism, pride in your country, and then there is this - just all felt very cult-ish.

I believe patriotic pride is fantastic no matter what nation you come from. Try and remember the sacrifice of the greatest generation US, British, Canadian, Australian and many more who repelled a real evil and true fascism.
A lot of flags are kept in many homes where loved ones made the greatest sacrifice defending their country. These brave souls enabled the likes of you and I to be able to enjoy a good quality of life, and the opportunity to freely express our views on an online forum in peace.
I feel like a lot of the US citizens on here come across as apologetic and embarrassed to be American. There are many oppressed and poor people on Earth who would love the opportunity to come here and make a good life for their families. I’m proud to live here and proud my kids can recite the pledge of allegiance from memory.
