Remember listening to a long podcast about Ford trying to set up a city in the Amazon rainforest “Fordlandia”
National Geographic or the Smithsonian Channel had a really good programme about it.

Yup. While Americans have a deep love of nostalgia they don't tend to have much use for history,* yet Ford's antisemitism is pretty widely known. Dude spent lots of his money putting copies of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion into circulation too.

Almost as bad as Charles Lindburgh!

Wacky.

Off topic: Friedrich Nietzsche's sister Elisabeth married a notorious antisemite named Bernhard Forster and in the 1880s the couple lit out for Paraguay, where they established the community of New Germania, which they hoped would become a New World redoubt from which the German race might be purified since, by their view, increasing industrialization and communications (and democratization) were all threats to racial purity. Their Aryan utopia failed miserably and Forster committed suicide as a result. Elisabeth Forster-Nietzsche then returned to Germany, moved in with her mother, and eventually became the sole caretaker of her brother the erstwhile philosopher, who spent the last decade of his life in a state of near catatonia. When he died, she became the legatee of his work and established a Nietzsche archive right around the time Nietzsche's writings were becoming well known. Nietzsche had thought antisemites (and especially Bernhard Forster) were self-deluding morons, but his sister promoted him as a sort of Arch-Aryan superman. She lived long enough to witness the advent of the Nazis and she was pleased that Hitler celebrated her late brother's work; except he hadn't read Nietzsche; he just took Elisabeth Forster-Nietzsche's word for it that Nietzsche hated Jews and loved Aryan Germans. Thus Friedrich Nietzsche's been saddled with an antisemitic/proto-Nazi reputation ever since. Sad face.

tl;dr: Antisemitism tends to have attracted a special brand of nutbar in the modern age.

Louisiana did that on their own a while back. Im sure lots of states already did

Seems to be only the southern states that opened a while back.

I was watching a local news piece on this yesterday. It is actually a news channel considered right leaning too.. They mentioned most states, religious leaders have thus far followed the stay away order.

Most of them are either now reopening or considering it. They mentioned only a small number of states either allowed reopening or had defiance.

They were talking about it because two churches here are suing the governor because they had been closed

Also many church leaders across the states are still trying to work out how to reopen safely.

The staunch red states and those who own mega churches are the ones defying orders and making the most noise.

So I had googled when are churches reopening and how many churches defied closure and it does seem most stayed closed across the country

Yeah we had a loser pastor here that asked for everyones Corona money and opened his church to 400+ people every day. Multiple services. He was then arrested by the cops for defying the order and trying to run over a protester with a bus. I dont agree with re-opening it inside but if they do it outside with limited seats available and the other people watching at home, it should work. Still absolute wanks for trying to risk peoples lives especially since most of the people are older.

Thats just it. Just like with restaurants but not bars or any other premises there are ways to make it safe for all.

People just need to be sensible and use common sense and ny following guidelines they will then be allowed to open.

San Diego County decided to allow restaurants and bars open without having to follow state guidelines. Guidelines that are pretty solid and sensible. Churches have so far followed the process and await approval for the next stage off openings etc..

I was driving though my town yesterday and restaurants were packed no common sense nor sensible approach.

Trump allowing them to open without guidelines is risky. Especially like you say some church owners are just not right.

Yeah I went to the bar for the first time since all this craziness happened and they took all the stools from the bar, you were forced to order food since they will operate as a "restaurant", no more than 6 people per table, all disposable cups, workers wore mask, and all social distancing everywhere. I couldn't even take a piss in the urinal next to someone lol. But all in all it seemed to work. Our governor is strict on his own guidelines. Hopefully more people comply and businesses can reopen

That's what it needs competent governors and city officials to rule the roost fairly and logically from now on.

Also business owners who listen like that bar seems to be doing

This is making me reflect super hard on the early days of the Democratic Party. I’m not sure why.
