Certainly in this instance they did. The Captain was responsible for one of the largest Warships on the planet, a key chess piece in the power struggle affecting the South China Sea commerce routes. If I were one of his officers I wouldn’t have been at all happy with him showing all and sundry any weakness regarding the ship. Write the letter by all means, call them all idiots by all means, but keep it within the chain of command. I’m pretty sure any captain of industry allowing his competitors to know his vulnerabilities in such a public manner would also have been removed sharpish. But hey, Trump, must hate......
yet the crew seemed to love him by the send off , almost as if there is more to his leadership than the media narrative . Who knows and as I say I’ve no real idea but I’m tempted to think they’ve got a clue on the qualities on the man they serve and whose hands their lives lay .

er - he did, and if you believe that it was him or someone who agreed with him that leaked the letter then congratulations and I hope you enjoy your 18th birthday on April 2nd, 2038.
Once again, for those who refuse to understand, he was removed not because he wrote the letter, but because he showed the letter to others not in the chain of command. The letter was then leaked, he may not have done it, but the probability is that his seniors did not do so. He made a mistake and has been punished for it......

Yes, Pete - the last people who would have leaked it would be the people who had reason to get rid of him, and had the contacts with the Press.
Its much more likely to have been someone who agreed with him, even though they would have known it would get him sacked (edit: or removed).

Why would they want to get rid of him ? He was the Captain of one of their largest Naval Assets....
Exactly.pete this is a President who:
sacked his Secretary of the Navy for trying to stop him pardon someone who executed people
ordered a particular ship to be covered up because it was named after John McCain (even though it was a different John McCain to the one he hated)
Erm, I think China and Russia might have been able to spot a) a bloody great big aircraft carrier docking in Guam unexpectedly b) all of their crew being sent to hotels with or without the heads up of a public letter.Certainly in this instance they did.
