Look it’s blasphemy to give Trump his due in here. And I don’t agree with trump and he’s policies. Terrible president in a terrible system and I’ve thought that about every president in my 30+ years. And seemingly most before I was born. But that’s mainly down to the system.

But with that out of the way I've got to say he knows what he is doing terms of winning the political game. He’s turned it on it’s head and is extremely unconventional. That China virus thing is very insensitive arguably racist, dangerous. But kinda smart in my opinion. Well smart in terms of how dumb the majority of people are. He knows how to play the game.

He’s not doing his rallies that he constantly does (unlike many president’s before him) for obvious reasons. So now he’s doing them rallies in the media more subtle though.

He will get 4 more years. With what the Democrats have mustard up.
Oh for the love of all that's sane give it a rest.

This smacks off "my main man Bernie has been shafted by the corrupt DNC, so now we must give kudos to Trump".

Given that you and Mr Nova Scotia have done nothing but tell us Bernie support will now vote for Trump if Bernie is "robbed" i expected nothing less from you.

Do you need a hug, seriously?

A real socialist would despise everything Trump stands for and not praise him one little bit. They would do everything they can to get him out even if that means their candidate cannot do it. Look at the younger socialists. AOC and those lot, great for the party, they will have their time. These young ones to the show are shrewd and have it down. Instead of being the anti christ to the DNC they are working from the inside and biding their time to try change it.

Sure Biden maybe many things but he's nowhere the same as Trump. Sure he's not the best but if Sanders fans stay home or vote for Trump what does that say about them. Bloody hypocrites, with no values simply riding the waves off an old white guy pretending to be one of them despite hating old white guys seemingly.

Face facts. There is no conspiracy. The people prefer Biden. Sanders has not inspired the voters with confidence. It's really important that you face that fact as it is and get over it.

If this is the attitude from Sanders support then god forbid. Not voting, staying home or actually voting for him thinking you are edgy is pathetic quite frankly. Sanders has done nothing but give out about Trump and say how he detests him and this is what his support comes down too.

I did say in terms of the system and how the masses are it’s smart. I agree with you that it’s the lowest common denominator stuff just like the top movie block busters are poorly written lazy and stupid. If doing the stupid and lazy thing to do means winning then it’s the smart thing to do.
It's the easy thing to do, and its even easier if you zero moral compass to stop you. I sort of agree with the above, but it gives him more credit than he deserves

Ah we’re back to the “Trump is a political genius” takes. Must be a Saturday.

Must also be why the majority of the country (those “dumb masses” you mentioned) disapprove of his handling of the crisis.

Wow.

I’ve been told.

In any defence I can muster up for myself I am In fairness playing devils advocate. I hate trump and everything he is about. I don’t need to say it it’s been well Documented. I’m just trying to highlight the strategies he uses may work. And it’s very very sad. That a good proportion buy into it.

Yes you are right I’m butt hurt over Bernie and maybe should put my point across about Trump in a less trolling manner. I don’t like the Democratic Party, I definitely don’t like the conservatives. I resent the binary choice on offer but as much as I hate it off course it’ll be better having Biden or anyone for that matter than Trump. But ye can’t say Trump is doesn’t know what he is doing as lowest common denominator as it is. 4 more years of him is a good possibility.

Im not saying he’s a genius. It’s a sad world his tactics could summon one person to vote for him let alone many. I’m just pointing that out its seemingly the smart thing to do. Not saying he’s ‘He’s like a stable genius’. Or smart for that matter. It’s plain to see he has low intelligence. Like the bully in secondary school wasn’t smart but but he dominated or the cool kids weren’t smart but won the popular vote.

As I said to Steve it’s my bad for puttting my point across in a trolling manner. Still bitter over Bernie here. And I know it’s not helping.

Touchy times in here, eh Jay?

Which would all be fine, except that you just keep saying the same thing and ignore any time anyone raises any ACTUAL evidence (see above, majority disapprove of his handling) and just repeat stuff like “seemingly the smart thing to do”.

If his handling of this crisis “seems like the smart thing to do” to you, then I’d venture it says more about you than it does anything else... because the majority of people are currently seeing him for the inept, xenophobic, low intelligence, low information ****womble that he is.

Yeah 40 odd % are with him... news flash, that isn’t changing, no matter how he handles anything.

Weren’t polls not in his favour and other ratings before he beat Hillary Clinton?

Of course...

If you look at various analyses though, there’s significant reason to believe they’re likely to be more accurate now than then.

For one example, given that he’s now President and “they won” people are less likely to be “secret” Trump voters than they were in 2016.

There used to be a lot more shame and embarrassment associated with voting for (or even praising) a racist.

It was a happier time.

Granted but it’s not something to bank on 100%

No, but I wasn’t talking about “banking on it 100%”... I was talking about your penchant (and you’re not alone, we’ve seen it a lot in the Primary thread over the last few weeks) for steadfastly ignoring statistical and other such “hard” evidence, when it doesn’t match with your predetermined view. cf: “Biden will definitely 100% lose to Trump” when for 3 years statistics and polls haven’t wavered an inch away from him being the best positioned candidate to beat him.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not a guarantee... but does require that at least a LITTLE counterevidence should be provided, rather than just repeating over and over an assertion that what appears by all available measures to be black... is in fact white.

I honestly hate him
As Americans, we find ourselves in the current predicament in large part because he treated the virus as a joke for about six weeks. That said, I think he’s right to not put the country on complete lockdown. From where I sit, it looks like the lesser of two evils is going to be letting the virus run its course and do what damage it will, as opposed to shuttering everything up indefinitely and watching our entire financial system collapse. I realize its a very stereotypically American way of looking at things, but we have to just live our lives, and decide what risks we’re each willing to take.

I don’t know what kind of money people in the rest of the world have socked away for hard times, but go look at some stats about how much the average American has saved. They’re absolutely sobering. Apparently nearly half of the country doesn’t have the money to cover an unexpected $500 expense, and only about 20% have enough savings to last four to six months. If we close the country down for any length of time (maybe even longer than a week or two AT MOST), a huge percentage of our population will have been thrown in a pit they can never realistically climb out of. Ten of millions of people will lose their homes, and with all those people defaulting on loans, after 2008, it’s pretty easy to see how the financial dominoes could start to fall from there.

If they have any sense whatsoever they'll do what they should have done in 2008 and get the mortgages off the banks in exchange for financial support (and at the heavily discounted rates that the banks were trading them at); the state would then be in a lot better way to help the people screwed over by this, as not evicting them would mean they end up having to fork out far less in welfare payments, it won't trash entire neighbourhoods and it would be an asset that would return far more than the banks will.

Obviously him having no sense whatsoever means they will not do that.

TBF it isn't the smart thing to do. In 2016 the smart thing to do was to present himself as an alternative to a political class that was doling out the election to one of two favoured camps - this worked because it was fundamentally true, and at no point did any of his rivals ever manage to challenge it effectively.

In 2020 the smart thing to do would be to point to the disaster being as bad as it is going to be because of the state that the US Healthcare industry is in, and that nearly all of the top level of US politicians (Presidents, Senators and Representatives) bear the blame for not reforming it. This is also fundamentally true, and it will lessen the very real blame that should attach to him personally for not reforming healthcare himself, all the cuts his administration has imposed (and is imposing), his personal lies and antics during the crisis and the blatant self-enrichment that so many of his supporters are engaged in right now.
