Not really as the only reason we have only 546 confirmed cases is we haven’t been doing much testing the past month and it is still very difficult to get testing even for those that doctors are certain have the virus. We simply don’t know how big an issue the virus is in the country because we haven’t had reliable data and Italy had low numbers a couple of weeks ago. He is also concentrating on the raw fatality rate rather than the impacts on healthcare delivery - even if this is “just a bad flu year” (which there is substantial evidence it isn’t) the US healthcare system already strains at the seams during a bad year.Yeah, he's not very well-spoken, but aren't those tweets pretty much correct (apart from the bottom right one which is just him being a tit lol)?
While the energy companies themselves will suffer, surely that will be massively outweighed by the rest of the economy receiving a huge boost from the drop in oil price? I mean, you're comparing one sector with literally every other, and that's before even factoring in the consumers. Not really as the only reason we have only 546 confirmed cases is we haven’t been doing much testing the past month and it is still very difficult to get testing even for those that doctors are certain have the virus. Similarly, whilst very low gas prices are generally good for most businesses and consumers, they will be awful for the energy companies which employ large #s of people, especially in states like Texas.
It could work out that way in the long term, however there could well be regional differences and that the energy sector getting hit will in the short term affect the overall stock market. While the energy companies themselves will suffer, surely that will be massively outweighed by the rest of the economy receiving a huge boost from the drop in oil price? As for your points on the outbreak, what metrics do you think Trump should be using if not those?

Even if you go exactly by the official figures that would be a 4% case fatality rate which is a long way from being the seasonal flu rate of 0.1% and you’d think was something it would be wise to ask people to avoid catching - just saying keep calm but wash your hands more frequently would be a helpful start. It is possible to mislead with substantively accurate statistics.
The government numbers are what they are. Because of the limited availability of testing and the consequent restrictions on who can be tested up until now, they are almost certainly undercounting the infected. You do not find what you do not test for.
The Saudis flooding the oil market certainly is the direct cause of the price drop. Why did they do that? It would seem that they think they can arm-twist Putin into playing ball with their cartel. They must figure they can tolerate low prices better than he can.
Trump is correct that the lower prices are good for the consumer, but North Dakota and Texas will get crushed. This may answer the Saudi question. A localized economic collapse in Texas could flip the state, which would almost certainly tip the election. Putin doesn't want that, which is most likely the play the Saudis are making if you ask me. The Saudis are probably indifferent on Trump/Biden; Russia very much is not, and they know it.

I mean the messaging isn’t rocket scienceI just pointed that out in the virus thread a few minutes ago. We are on the same wavelength even more than usual today.
