While I don't approve of the treatment of Manning and Snowden, they broke the law. Hardly the same as having your political opponent bumped off.

Jailing [Poor language removed] Riot is a bit different from jailing Manning like.

How so? Pu$$y Riot also broke the law and got jailed for it, only not for 35 years like Manning and not put in solitary confinement under mental torture.

Regarding assassinations, I agree Russia has terrible form for this, be the victims journalists or political opponents (like Nemtsov or that poor fella in London). The rate of murders seems to have gotten a lot better under Putin's 2nd era.

And this, folks, is how fake news is created.

Which bit is fake?

Assange isn't jailed; neither is Snowden for that matter.

As good as. The UN themselves classed Assange's asylum as "arbitrarily detained by Sweden and the United Kingdom (via US pressure)", and Snowden has had his passport revoked and will immediately be arrested if he ever sets foot within US again.

As such it's disappointing to hear Obama talk of mistreatment of "political dissidents" by Russia (which Russia are guilty of) as if his own hands are clean.

The US needs to lead by example, not by a maxim of do as I say not as I do.

Im willing to bet my left nut that Litvenenkos family would jump at the chance for him to be in Snowdens or Assanges shoes right now

Assange is engaged in a fairly blatant attempt to avoid justice by staying in the Ecuadorian embassy until the rape he is accused of lapses under the statute of limitations. What he (and Wikileaks) have done is immense, but he really should not be viewed as a prisoner of conscience when he is free to walk out of there at any time. That UN report was nonsense.

Snowden I don't know what to make of; yes he did leak stuff but he seems to have become a lot more well known than Drake, Binney, Roark or any of the rest of the people who actually did expose serious wrongdoing, and who really did have the state go after them in a big way.

I myself am against every war but most countries have blood on their hands and the is mass hypocrisy,

Clinton and Trump are basically the same as each other and have links to blair bush and co. Business as usual in USA by appointing trump, he won't change anything as Obama didn't.

At least in China they get business done in a fashion that benefits the whole country not just businesses and tax havens.

I went through all this earlier, mate. He's not free to walk out there and the only thing that's blatant is the stitch-up against him. It's not even rape what he's accused of anyway, according to Swedish law it's "rape of a lesser degree", which really confuses the rape is rape crowd among the chattering classes and is questionable whether anything that he's accused of doing would even be considered a crime in British law.

Alone the millions spent on 24/7 policing watch over the embassy over the last few years should be enough for anyone to question what's going on, and then there's the perfect timing of these accusations coming directly after the helicopter-massacre video that he leaked.

Regarding Snowden, he's part of the same Obama crackdown which did for those in Trailblazer. He's got more column inches because the program he revealed was wider, and he had the ear of scoop-hunting media. What's now most interesting about Snowden is how he can have asylum in Russia and still be free to criticise them as well as USA. Maybe there's more to this game than meets the eye, Putin playing a complex long game?
