@ilikecheese has questioned my character for sticking up for Assange's belief that he's being stitched up by the americans...in the same breath he's wanting Assange jailed alongside Manning for whistleblowing. Wants him jailed in the US for
"not serving the best interests of my country" and if this isn't possible hoping he rots in asylum instead.
This is precisely what Assange is paranoid of: american vindictiveness (i.e. he'll be extradited to US as soon as he left the Equadorian embassy).
The UN themselves have ruled that Assange is being effectively detained against his will, because of this american push to arrest him. How many millions have the British spent now in keeping 24/7 surveillance of the embassy? For an
alleged 'soft rapist' wanted in Sweden for mere questioning ?
It's a stunning example of the kind of hypocritical self-rightousness which many in the world associate USA with. Arrogance by any other name.
At the very least admit the rape accusations are rubbish: they want him because of his whistleblowing. At least then we could have a normal debate, instead people hide behind the
he's a rapist who must turn himself in and anyone supporting him is a rape apologist.
Dishonest dangerous stuff. But occasionally the mask slips.
And in keeping it on-topic, this is very much related to Trump: who supports Wikileaks, arguably gained from their leaks and also endured a barrage of questionably-timed accusations. And then there's Russia who are hosting Snowden under asylum (yet Snowden can still freely criticise Russia as well as US)...
