Doubt the tariffs will be reimposed for a while - think the recent stock market falls have shaken him a little. Trump always has judged the health of the economy by that metric so headlines like “Dow sinks 700 points” always seem to get a reaction from him.

Ross seems to be giving a pretty clear “we will only make token protests” signal to China


and Trump himself has been on a “hope it works out for everyone but not my problem” vibe which is entirely consistent with the administration’s reactions to other authoritarian regimes actions.
