I sort of agree with what some of you guys are saying re: this isn’t the way to do things, and that there’s constitutional ways to remove a sitting President.
In theory.
The problem is that at this moment, in this situation, those constitutional means are obsolete or broken.
The founders, foresaw the possibility of a President who needs to be removed. Unfortunately they didn’t foresee, and certainly didn’t do anything to account for the possibility of such a President allied with a Congress who refuse to conduct their oversight responsibilities.
Let’s be very clear - there is NO current way to remove Donald Trump from office. Even if the Democrats win the House, they won’t have a majority (or certainly not a big enough one) in the Senate to convict/remove him in an impeachment trial.
I'm sure the anonymous author would fear for their life if they revealed themselves nowNo, but there would be an impeachment trial where, I'd imagine, there'd be proof of tax evasion, bank fraud, collusion with the Russians and obstruction of Justice. If you could tie all that up in a neat bow, I'd imagine a lot of senators would flip as Trump would be toxic (to all but the far right) for 2020.
I can't make up my mind whether I think it's cowardly to remain anonymous, or the right thing to do. It does concern me that this is happening now and in this manner, it suggests things have gone seriously wrong and rocking the ship before the midterms is the only way to get him impeached.
Perhaps this article from David Frum might help in deciding what is right:No, but there would be an impeachment trial where, I'd imagine, there'd be proof of tax evasion, bank fraud, collusion with the Russians and obstruction of Justice. I have thought about it on both ends. Whilst I don't agree with the idea of people "revolting" against Trump, I, at least, am a bit thankful for them. It's weird, completely for and against the idea at the same time.Totally. It is not "patriotic" to protect a mentally unstable president. It is an end around the constitution and fear of offending the Trump cult which GOP must have to win elections. It's a power grab by un-elected officials
I remember when Rand Paul claimed to be a small government libertarian.
He also seems to have suddenly developed Sessions “I don’t recall” memory.
