2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Is there a reason everyone is so confident he’s leaving? The club announced straight away that Doucoure would be leaving at end of contract but not DCL? I still think there’s a chance he stays.
I reckon the fact we’re negotiating a substantial transfer fee for a lad in his position is probably a good indicator he’s off mate. Bear in mind we also fancied Delap, it looks like the club have known DCL is leaving for ages and have planned accordingly.

We bid £30 million for Delap and are very clearly actively persuing another number 9.

Think it’s highly unlikely he stays unless neither party have found a dance partner come mid August.

You just know that he will go somewhere else , get his head and fitness right , and then burn it up for half a season.
Heads will fall off on here with major hysteria (as usual)
Then he will return to normal i.e. perma injured and needing understanding whilst on a massive salary

Fair play if he does.

I dont think there are many clubs in the top flight of Europe whos fans will heap pressure on like Everton fans do.

Its what seperates good players and bad players, when players cant let the noise be just that, noise.

DCL has mentioned a few times te his mental health and for his sake, he needs a clean break, likewise, so do we. So i wish him luck, but we need players with winners mentality snd we've got too many who aren't that at present.

I’m not suggesting he stays as our first choice, more than happy for him to leave also. Just find it odd that it was announced Doucoure would be leaving at the end of his contract, but they’ve not done that with Dom.

Personally I think the new owners have decided that he isn’t clinical enough in front of goal and therefore cannot be relied on to score us enough goals for a player on his wages. I agree with that assessment, I will be surprised if he joins another club where he will be first choice centre forward and that club finishes above us.
I think Moyes wants him and has possibly got DCL a package that works - but he’s trying to get TFG to sign off on it

There’s not many strikers out there who would choose to come to us right now given our recent struggles.

Comments like that always get get people hot under the collar, but we do have to be realistic. We are desperate for a striker better than Beto, Chermiti and Dom. But strikers consistently better than them are looking higher up league tables (and their agents don’t care about our history and new ground). And we don’t want to bribe players with stupid contracts.

It’s not easy.

Exactly this. Fit and firing DCL could be a great asset for us. The issue is getting him fit and firing.

We can’t make the mistake of offering big wages to players who won’t turn up.

Sadly, we need to be buying players who see us as a stepping stone to a more established winning club.

He was on holiday for a while then came back and then the stories appeared about gaps in discussions between club and player and the usual sources started saying he was unlikely to reach a deal with the club.
