2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Yeah I do get that. It probably started 18months ago when we may have tried to start talking contracts. Whilst he was probably the injured at the time, I don’t blame a striker who was once completely uncontested as Kane’s backup (and did well when he got the chance) for not signing for us when we looked certain at some point to finally go down over the coming seasons, and with 777 seemingly our only saviours.

It’s ultra frustrating how little he has managed to contribute. But thinking calmly, I don’t believe he has done much wrong. I think he has always tried, I’m positive he will have done everything to try and improve his obvious weaknesses, he’s allowed some managers to throw him back into the squad when clearly not ready. I can’t hate a player what they aren’t good at. That’s really weird.

I thought Dyche looked to have done a brave and sensible job in how he just took him completely out of the picture to try and sort his injury. Maybe Dyche also saw the other difficulties and tried to give space for that too, which he will never get credit for, but if so, should be commended.

With hindsight on Doms career and the type of player he is, it’s crying out for 2 years vying for promotion in the Championship in his early 20’s, scoring 20+ goals a season, gaining both skills and confidence. And seeing if his body can cope with all those games, and if so, conditioning further. Instead he had the PL survival of one of the most storied, and skint, clubs in the game on his shoulders the moment we left him as our only striker and though we’d spread the goals around.

Club more at fault than the player, coupled with some ridiculous bad luck.
Not sure anyone really dislikes Dom personally. I guess maybe some do but that would be dumb. I mostly just think he’s been criminally overrated by some including himself, and we’re at a point where he should move on. I also maintain that if it was the same player from another club out of contract he’d not even be in our thoughts to sign unless it was 50k or less per week. He’s not good enough if we’ve got any real ambition this time around.

I’ve always liked Dom as a footballer and as a bloke, though admittedly not always as a striker because he’s not a natural finisher and massively underperforms his xG most years.

It’s clear he won’t be staying, and I think we should take the contact offer off the table because otherwise we’ll drag our feet finding a new striker with the vague hope he might still sign, when it’s been clear for months he won’t.

Sounds a bit daft, but I simply don’t think he ever felt loved and not having a song was a big part of that. I honestly think he’s been gone mentally since that Villa game when he got booed off when he had a genuine head injury. That’s not to say he hasn’t been good or tried in games since, rather he made his mind up about staying/leaving. Felt like a watershed moment. Wish him all the best wherever he ends up, get the feeling he’ll take a pay cut as he won’t get a better offer than ours.

Thanks for the feedback you pearl clutching tit.
GoTs full of surprises but a pissy cry arse jumping in to defend Jake Humphrys is a new one.

Something tells me the ‘D’ isn’t for Dean.

Now, now...it's all peace and love on the GOT.

Mentions several Everton managers but not Moyes.

Talks about wanting to play in the Champions League but doesn't say he'd like to do it with Everton.

Says he can't talk about the future yet because he's still got a contract with Everton.

I don't get the impression he's staying. Hope if he does leave he goes on to have a successful and fulfilling career and I wish him good health, both mentally and physically. Had some good moments for us - the Palace goals, RS, that spell under Carlo but his final season has been distinctly underwhelming and it's best for all concerned if he moves on imo.

This thread has always had an element of those who mix up professional and personal. And in my opinion some have shamelessly made it an issue that wasnt there.
Like you say its a very stupid person who dislikes someone they dont even know.
Every single player threads on this forum has them being criticised at some stage. Who's to say they havent had/have the same issues. There would possibly be some hypocritical comments if we scrolled through the Michael Keane thread. Someone who is reported to have issues. I dont read much personal stuff and if i ever have im quite encouraged at how quickly they are shot down by other posters if they think its crossed the line.
I wouldnt like to see the forum get to the stage where we cant discuss performances on the pitch without being accused of "hate"

As in any industry and walk of life. I wish anyone who has issues the best of help. I personally wont stop commenting on what i want to see on the pitch for the club.

I hope all the tough guys on here can articulate their inevitable mental health issues as well as Dominic, I also hope they have friends and family around them more informed and educated than they are. Whether you agree or not this fella in his own time has strived to push boundaries and embolden others to be who they want to be and that is regardless of how you feel about the particular person and platform he has chosen to open up about his private life with. Perhaps he should have just banged loads of gas cookers and smashed up taxis to get respect instead? How is communicating how you actually feel and being another person in history trying to make it less of an issue and more of a norm a bad thing?

If you think that a successful young man in this day and age who is struggling with the pressures of his profession and the amount of jobs dependent on him being good at it. A man who has challenges in his life and mental struggles in his conceivable world yet still has the bravery to openly talk about his situation, to open himself up to ridicule and scorn from keyboard warriors who have achieved a fraction of what he has should suddenly snap out of his spiralling negativity because he is prostrate on a carpet in his bedroom that costs £3000 per m2 then you’ve missed the point entirely. What a sorry state of affairs this thread has become.
Great post. Vitriolic posts are quite often from people who have a lack of empathy, and understanding that mental health can be clinical in nature e.g. not situation dependant so it doesn’t matter what he does for a living or how much money he makes, he like anyone else can be subject to illness. If those posters can’t see it, feel it or touch it, they don’t believe it. It’s taken courage from DCL to talk about himself in this way.

I like Dom for the most of it, and thinks hes been a great servant for us over the years. Now, i thinks its clear for everyone, that the time has come for him to revitalise his career somewhere else. I genuenly rates Beto higher than DOM, and would much rather get a young prospect as a backup instead of Dom, because i no longer trust him in front of goal.

Lets move on.

No issue with Dom sure he’s a nice guy but as far as injuries go and being a forward and scoring goals he’s not very good realistically he should of been on about 70k I’ve wanted us to get rid of him for several seasons now it’s definitely time for him to move on unless he has no offers and now wants to hang around realising he’s not got anything to offer to warrant 130k a week or whatever it was he was meant to be wanting. Should have been on the list of not retained straight away.

The issue is, he feels his contribution is far greater than what it has been and clearly seems he feels he is bigger than the club.

This recent interview (mental health issues aside), the Instagram post the last Goodison game followed by his mrs instagram posts, the fact he downed tools last summer when he was expecting his big move and refusal of signing a contract.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up, but I would be heavily surprised if many teams come in for him and there will be no-one from the top half of the table at least.

It is time for both parties to move on!
