2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

This is a big factor. Even if he isn’t first choice, on a £100,000 on a 3 year contract he will cost us a total of £3.6m.

You’re not bringing in even a third choice striker for that amount of money.

Even if Delap comes in, we need another striker if you’re losing DCL and sending Chermiti out on loan.

It’s the same thing with Michael Keane. He’s a more than fine 4th choice CB. If he goes, he needs replacing and that costs more than a new contract.
He's not Carlo Nash.

This sort of logic works for a £20k/week reserve keeper who rarely plays.

For that money I want a fit, ready, and capable forward. Activley conpeting for a first team spot. Dom can certainly offer something at this level, but it's the sort of deal we used to laugh at other clubs for giving Andy Carroll in the hope he'd roll back the years.

You know when I worked it out, I thought it seemed low.

Just basically did it at 100,000 a month didnt I. Missed out a whole section of my own calculation.

😭😭😭

No worries. The money involved is nuts when you work it out. A £40k a week reserves costs a fortune over a season/contract.

I've backed Dom for years, really wa ted him to come good after every set back, but i really do think he needs to move on. Maybe a change will do him good as well.

He can’t be match fit & is no doubt low on confidence. I would be offering £50/£60 k a week plus bonuses on a shortest term deal principally as a back up. That would be £3m a year for 2 to 3 years. Won’t get a back up fee plus wages for less.

If he does come good we could sell him!

Everton will want to keep him. We need a squad.

If he goes, we need to replace him and as a benchmark - £15m on Sporting's 4th choice striker before wage.

….if the pursuit of Delap is true, the indication is we are serious about bringing in another central striker. Do you think we will want Beto, DCL plus another striker in the squad, not withstanding there’s some that still think Chermiti is the real deal?

I have mostly backed him ,
But it's time to move on for both us and him.
He is injured more than fit. His confidence is shot.
Half the fans look like they are waiting for him to cock up.
only way I would keep him is on reduced wages as a squad filler, that doesn't look realistic as we have talked to Delap, that leaves Beto and him fighting it out, and DLC behind both even if he stays fit.
Hopefully they are not keeping him and cashing in on Beto.
Wish him well if he goes.

Moyes didn't include Chermiti on the bench/squad recently. Hasn't given him a sniff. Even Broja got minutes before him when it was obvious he was gone. I don't think he's fancied.

Math not your strong point?

£100,000/week is £400,000/month x 36 months is £14,400,000.

I'd say that's shocking value.
🤣 other than it’s actually £100k x 52 x 3 and £15.6m it’s still fantastic value for an England capped 28 year old for 3 years.

When you think Chermiti has cost more than that and contributed less in the last 2 years.

If he’s fit and plays 10 games or scores 5 goals we could flog him next year for £15m and still turn a significant profit

Love the mathematicians trying to justify us paying £100k a week for a striker who has scored the same number of goals as Michael Keane to sit on the bench or treatment table for the next three years.

I can’t remember this kind of discourse about a player ever. Did we ever pine for Victor Anichebe this way?
