2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

It looks like a child just swinging a boot and trying to get it on target. The follow up effort is something I wouldn’t expect from a non league striker. Really embarrassing tbf, he has the technique of a centre back playing up front.
Which is funny because our worst CB has scored the same amount of goals as him this season and played 12 games less 🤣🤣

If we should keep him boils down to a cold and hard nosed assessment of probability.

1. What are the odds of him staying fit and having the season of his life?

2. What are the odds Moyes gets him fit and fits him into a system that suits the team, where he has a solid but unspectacular season?

3. What are the odds of him spending significant portions of the season injured, missing very passable chances when available, and generally frustrating. Maybe with the odd storming performance chucked in?

There's no cash out option here I am afraid.

10/20/70% for my money. We look stupid if 1. happens for West Ham or similar, but it really does not look likely given the past few years.

He’s got loads of space to keep running into, but he takes it early on his weaker foot and hits it straight at the keeper. The follow up is even worse, he has time to take a touch and get a better shot away.
I don’t have an issue with him using his left foot, but he should be going low to the keeper’s right (his left) rather than blasting it at the keeper

Need to factor in how many players we need, that we need an actual squad and how resource isn't infinite.

You know what, I don’t think it’s as much about Dom as it is the discourse on here and in the media.

We were told that it wasn’t worth giving Beto a run of games. We were gaslit by people telling us we are so so much better when he’s in the team. Patronised by people claiming he was everything up to and including ‘the best striker in world football’.

His mate/family member even pops up on here to ridicule anyone who dares criticise him.

It’s really been grating for anyone that has watched him and thought he’s a very mediocre striker that is extremely lucky to be playing for Everton.
We've had worse strikers for sure. But I don't remember the club ever persisting for so long with a striker as limited as Dom.

It's uncanny, no matter where the keeper is positioned or where lewin in shooting from, he nearly always manages to find him. Moving into the new stadium the club really does need to moving on and attracting far better than this.

Keeper literally doesn’t even have to move to save it. He just stands there and it hits him, then the rebound goes into the Tyne. As in, they could’ve had my mum in net and he still wouldn’t have scored there.

I can’t believe there are genuine shouts for him to stay.

We want to reduce our wage bill - he’s one of our highest earners.

We want a fit, robust squad - he’s a crock.

We want committed players - he’s ran his deal down hoping for better offers.

We want consistent goalscoring strikers - he’s hasn’t hit double figures since Covid and in the last two seasons has gone on monstrous goalless streaks.

There are some mitigating circumstances for the above points but we wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole if he was coming from another club. Are our standards so through the floor because he’d be a signing of convenience?

For £1.5m he’s been a really good servant and the goal against Palace will live long in the memory but we simply must part ways now - for his sake as much as ours.
Sums it up perfectly.

This is a big factor. Even if he isn’t first choice, on a £100,000 on a 3 year contract he will cost us a total of £3.6m.

You’re not bringing in even a third choice striker for that amount of money.

Even if Delap comes in, we need another striker if you’re losing DCL and sending Chermiti out on loan.

It’s the same thing with Michael Keane. He’s a more than fine 4th choice CB. If he goes, he needs replacing and that costs more than a new contract.

Math not your strong point?

£100,000/week is £400,000/month x 36 months is £14,400,000.

I'd say that's shocking value.
