2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

If he does sign a new deal, he’ll be our first choice striker unfortunately, as don’t think we are in a position to be paying someone £100k a week to sit on the bench. The irony being, that help will probably be on the treatment table half the time.

Any other striker signed would be a cheap signing/loan deal.

Yeah I know, we also had Andy Johnson who wasn't bad, Ferguson wasn't bad ,Beattie had a great record at Saints, but we got the fat, finished player after a bad injury. We also had Rooney at the start of his career, trouble was fowards were the dearest players to buy and let's be honest Moyes had to sell to buy his whole Everton career.
Johnson wasn't great, Ferguson he inherited. Beattie was a calamity.

Playing devils advocate. But maybe, DCL has had no interest at all at the wages he wanted, and realises a reduced pay deal to stay, often off the bench, is the best deal he's going to get. I wouldn't be against this IF we signed a decent main striker.

What annoys some folks is that if he didn`t want to stay and play under Dyche`s negative football, why not move last year? People can blame the club for looking for too much money for him, but these days if a player wants to move they can usually get the move (providing some club is interested in signing them in the first place).
That's as you say assuming someone did come in for him. Can't think who'd have needed him last year. Especially looking at his goal and injury stats.

Don't get the hostility, me.

A lot of it I figured was around expecting/inevitability feeling of him getting off. "He's crap anyway"

If I was him, I wouldn't have signed the contract either. We must have been the worst team in the league for years for a striker. People here slating Dyche/negative football, and in the same breath slate a number 9 who doesn't fancy it. C'mon...

He'll definitely have offers, undoubtedly.

If we've now convinced him, tremendous. We're selling Beto. They want silly money for Broja - we'll have a very handy, rotational/backup striker in Calvert-Lewin. They won't bank on him to play 30+ games, that's for sure.

It would be a travesty to lose such a PSR friendly 'asset' for zilch.

We've been experts over the years at setting players up the fail - none more so than him. Get some pace in the squad, and ability to pass forward or cross a bloody ball and he's a big asset to the team.
It's simply because signing a striker with 17 goals in four seasons isn't a good decision for any money.

I'd love to know what these offers are.

He didn't want to sign 12 months ago, now look at him.

If we can sign him to a contract it may be a lot cheaper than buying a new forward and the money saved can go towards a set piece specialist who can put the ball on DCLs head where he is at his best.....I have no idea who the set piece specialist is.

….not sure if Delap played but what I remember from our first game was looking at the Ipswich fans forum and how totally impressed they were with DCL.

Fans saying he was the epitome of PL striker and what they have to aspire too.

Roll on a few months and posters want Delap and are fuming over the prospect of DCL staying here.

Its a funny old game.
