Good luck to him. I really rated him when he first broke through, and saw something of the great Graeme Sharp in him. While he never scaled anything like those heights, he did provide a Sharp-like cameo with the most important goal he ever scored against Crystal Palace.
That's what I will remember him for. I am pleased this natural end won't be dragged out into acrimony and recrimination. The reality is the club needs new blood to start a new era, and the player needs a new start to give himself a chance to end his career on a high.
