2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Can you think of anyone who’s been a free agent all the way through pre season because clubs wanted to save money on his signing on fee?

These don't have a club yet. Surely some of those name would be tied up if it was that simple?

Ends up a negotiation tactic the longer it goes on, a clubs budget, and levels of interest, other available options.

Dom's agent will be talking to clubs. But if none of them have bent to his his wages and fee demands, he's lowering it the longer it goes on and it's a better deal for clubs.

I would expect exactly 0 of them to still be without a club in the second week of July, including Dom.

Possibly. But then you don't know if any fees were compromised on for it to happen which is really what I'm trying to say.

If they weren't, they still wouldn't be free agents.

It's also down to interest. Hypothetical scenario ...Dom is negotiating offers from a Fulham etc and not agreeing. Newcastle then swoop and offer half of what he's asking for at the back end of the window...he's got to make a decision. If he chooses Newcastle it's good business for the club.

I think most of those don't have a club for the same reason. They are poor football players. The ones that aren't are north of 30.

Dom's rated as the 6th highest valued player on that list, just after Messi funnily enough which is definitely where some here apparently rate him. Even funnier, Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell is above him.... You'd expect he'd be attracting some interest but I would suggest he isn't getting calls from the same teams that are interested in Jonathan David who's at the top of the list and is actually decent.

Most of them are courting upwards of £100k+ a week and god knows how many millions for a signing on fee.

Some players will have bidding wars for their signatures. Some will be waiting weeks to find clubs desperate to pay it. Some will compromise or have no club.

De Gea spent a year without a club when he left United I think mainly due to his wage demands he wasn't backing down from. At Fiorentina now

I am curious what offers he has and if say he did get one from a promoted team would take it for a season with the view to hopefully doing well and get a move after it by signing a one year deal.

Gbamin on there after being released from Zurich. Valued at £2m

You wonder if it was the injuries or wether he wasnt quite good enough but looking at his whole career only one club ever spent big bucks on him.
Very Everton.
