2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I think people do forget how long he has been at us and due to the mismanagement of the club he’s basically had to lead the line for years with nobody challenging him. Hes been so unlucky with injuries. It wasn’t long ago he was linked with a 50m move to Arsenal and he was in the England squad.

Yes, he misses sitters, Newcastle prime example, think he missed one against Brentford or Palace aswell this season but on the whole he’s been a great servant to us. We bought him for buttons in today’s market and he has warranted a place in our history. I hope he stays because he does give you something different especially when he drags defenders out of postition and towards the wings. Again, not his fault the wingers have been poor and never do anything with the flick on’s.

Yes. He may only get a few goals a season but also the quality around him for years now has been awful. Imagine being a forward and expecting McNeil and Harrison and Lindstrom to float good balls in for you. I hope he stays personally.

Morning mate. Beto has had no problem scoring goals supplied by these same players.

Magic like that beautifully illustrates the madness of footie fans. Seeking outrage everywhere.

Remember Heitinga being asked about playing for Barca? RAAAAAAAAAAGH.

Lukaku about his ambitions? RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

DCL about his wife? RAAAAAAAAAAGGH.
Unless they’re waxing lyrical about Goodison Park, or talking about the exploits of little curly Alan Ball (before he effed off to arsenal of course) then our players should keep their thoughts to themselves!

I don’t think his abilities as a bang average Carlton Cole level striker are worth the baggage that he brings in terms of dividing the fanbase, and also not worth being out for half the season with varying niggles. I also don’t care about what clothes he wears, and seeing as we’re not managed by Sean Dyche anymore, I don’t care how high he can jump to flick the ball on to the opposition goalkeeper. I just want a striker that occasionally looks like scoring a goal. He’s scored 15 non-penalty goals in his last 106 league games.

I've always championed Dom. Think he's got all the attributes of a great No.9; quick and a threat in behind, works both centre halves and both channels behind the full backs, but is also good in the air and can hold the ball up. Would be a nightmare to play against on that basis. Carlo also worked hard on his one and two touch finishing and movement inside the box - the more cerebral stuff - which I think was the only thing missing from his natural physical game.

People might point to him only having one good scoring season with us. I would point to that being the only season he's had as a grown-up no.9 in an Everton shirt where there has been any quality of supply behind him, and an actual plan to get the ball into the net in open play. As others have rightly highlighted, he's had to endure 2 or 3 seasons now with zero creativity in behind him, with instinctively negative tactics, all while playing without any competition or support, being rushed back from injury too soon and unable to gather any real rhythm. It's easy to forget context when simply looking at the numbers - which is imo the biggest blight on the modern football narrative. Anyone can google some stats and let that inform their opinion without ever having watched a full 90 minutes (C.F. every [s*** language removed] youtube podcast).

HOWEVER (and it is a big however) all the above has sadly happened. It would be equally as foolish to want to keep Dom in the side because of a season he had once under a world class manager, injury free and with a wealth of attacking talent behind him. Recent historical precedent indicates that he can no longer string together enough games in a row to get into a rhythm (our fault for overplaying him when injured) and that the absence of goals has affected his confidence - squandering what chances he does get, when he does play. Sometimes people forget that all strikers miss chances. People talk about that Villa game, forgetting that he only had one real chance. Watkins also missed two sitters in that game (including a genuine open goal?) but had about 6 chances, taking one. However if you can't play enough in a team that creates enough chances then I) you need to be more lethal; and/or II) you need to have greater mental resilience to persevere. Dom doesn't appear to have either of those qualities. Beto, for instance, does - making him a better fit for us.

Weirdly he'll probably go somewhere else and play well - and everyone will wonder why we booted him - but I've reached the conclusion that if he stays, regardless of the circumstances, he'll continue to play poorly. In other words, he needs to leave, for us and him.

Never been good enough because he doesn't have the technical ability to thrive at the top level.

Yes he has some good qualities, heading and athleticism, but doesn't mask his bad qualities. He doesn't strike the ball properly. Is rubbish one on one. Can't beat a man and often loses possession. Misses too many chances

Personally, I think most of it boils down to this.

I don't think we necessarily need a target man to be beating players, but he has remarkably poor technique when it comes to actually shooting which gives him little power in his finishing and that, to me, lends itself to the other issues he has re 1-on-1s etc

Best form he's ever had was when Ancelotti told him to stay in the width of the 18 yard box and hit everything first time and that negated some of this.

Undoubtedly players who live their lives in public have to deal with stuff few of us ever have to. We all forget that.

Good luck to him. But it has to be elsewhere because his time here is at a natural end IMO. It wouldn't serve him or us any good for another contract to be handed out to him by Everton. They'd be doing his mental well being a disservice.

What you say Dave is very true, try messaging Moyes.
