He missed a pen as well tbf
But its not about chances. Its been about application and effort.
Since Lampard took over mate as I said. He's had 3 'big chances' from open play all across this season (under both managers) and missed two and scored one.
See this is the thing. For me it's not application or effort that is lacking, I do think the effort is there but it's like a mental block because of that injury - he's just not been willing and/or able to push himself. So it will come across as effort but look at him now, out again. He just can't get right, and when he has played it definitely feels like he's holding himself back. We've all played sports and had injuries I'm sure, and when you do you don't just go straight back without a bit of trepidation. Well multiply that by having to play at the highest level (well, by name at least) of elite sport.
It's not impossible and if Everton were sitting safely in mid-table or pushing for Europe I'm sure he'd be feeling a bit less pressure, but it all adds up.
It's far too easy to disregard everything as being down to a lack of effort but we've seen from the whole team in recent weeks that the effort has been there under Lampard yet the quality just sorely lacks.
DCL needs to get over that mental block once he comes back for the run-in. That's on him, he has to put the effort into do that. But I'm not having that he's downed tools or lazy because all of the evidence we've seen over the last six years shows that's not who he is.
