Name one?

I’m not saying DCL is a bad player, but you need to be more clinical. He’s excellent within the 6 yard box, but not the first time he’s bottled a one on one.
You name me one who hasn't missed a one on one. Probably one of the best ever one on one finishers is Bayerns Thomas Muller, and he missed one against England in the Euro's, and I guarantee it wasn't his first.

But I wouldn't even call the chance yesterday a proper one on one. It was a through ball inside the area and the keeper was on him in an instant, before he even reached the ball. He had no time even to think about it and the finish was instinctive. Dom's normally quite decent in those situations.

The sort of one on ones where he's suspect is when he's put through running in on goal from outside the area, and he has time to think about what to do (like the Muller one above). He does lack composure in those circumstances and needs to improve. He also needs to strike a ball cleaner from outside the area if I'm being super critical of the lad. But he's also brilliant in the air and has great movement in the box. If he was brilliant at everything he wouldn't be at Everton.

The state of this thread.

Who would have thought that our constantly improving 24 year old England International striker has scored in each of the 2 opening premier league games for the second year running. Who would have thought that Dom had just won and then subsequently scored a penalty, forced the Leeds keeper into 2 outstanding saves, and was a thorn in the Leeds defence the whole game.

Not many going by regular contributors to GOT. Since the game ended yesterday there have been an incredible 47 negative posts in this thread from 23 different posters (a special mention to @Kurt for contributing 15 to the total). I haven't even included any from the matchday thread lol.By negative, I mean posts that are overly critical of the lad, that don't rate him as a Premier league standard striker, or that actually blame him for Everton not winning the game yesterday. I have not included those numerous posts that were just expressing an opinion that one on ones are not a strong side to his game and an area he needs to improve on. These are genuine opinions on a player that is not yet the finished article.

Dom is a player who cost us practically nothing, has shown a marked improvement year on year since he joined us, is generally accepted as understudy to the world class Harry Kane in the national team, and has never done or said anything that could remotely offend our overly sensitive fan base, except from his choice of fashion wear of course. ;) His aerial ability and movement in the box is second to none in the Premier league, and I do mean second to none. We have a manager now who seems to want to play a style that will create chances for him, like we did at the beginning of last season. If we continue in that vein and Dom stays fit, I fully expect him to score 20+ goals this season.

Even that wouldn't be enough for some on here though who seemingly think he should be scoring every opportunity that comes his way for some bizarre reason. The two chances yesterday were snap shots that he didn't even have time to think about, which is usually his pitfall. The first he did great to get ahead of the defender and redirect the cross goal bound, and the second the keeper did brilliantly to close him down and make the opportunity much more difficult. It's the one on ones from outside the box when he's through on goal that he needs to get more proficient with, I think it's a composure thing. He can improve and proved it yesterday with the composure he showed for the penalty.

For now, I am more than happy with where Dom is in his development. I've always defended the lad on here but even I admit he has become a better player than I ever expected, and I'm confident there is even more improvement to come from him. If he does then we'll find it hard to keep hold of him for much longer, then all the ones cryarsing now will have something else to whinge about.
There's people on here who still think Lukaku isn't good enough for us hahaha

Interesting opinions on him in this thread.
If he was slotting every chance he probably wouldnt still be at Everton. We're not exactly in the market or an attraction for any "elite" strikers.
I think he'll bag 20 this season. Esp if he stays on the pens.
Seems to be a well he's not marco van basten is he thing about him with some Everton fans.
He's easly good enough for Everton right now and there is still a bit of a beast/bully there that is still hidden in him.

The actual problem is, if he continues to develop at the pace he is and we don't match that. We will probably lose him

Yes you are wrong.

Keane was a mess at the back and was a factor in us not winning, but if DCL scored either of them two chances we do win that game, that second miss from iwobis pass was awful, any decent centre forward buries that.

That klich scores his goal when through on goal which was quite similar
You’re not doing yourself any favours just p
Just pointing out a goal scorer
odd
