Haters gonna hate

Last season he went on the best run of his career. Prior to that the criticism was warranted. People said it is a purple patch and he very well may go back to old Dom and to be fair he then went ten games without a goal.

Now he seems to be back in business so in hindsight you gotta give the benefit and blame the team. But criticism has been warranted.

Fareplay to the lads keeping the faith and had to deal with ugly hate but it’s semi-understandable.

If you can forgive Dom then surely you can forgive me.

he has been specifically told to concentrate on being a striker and being central, he won't be as involved but when he is it will be more dangerous and not in the corner flag.

And I think then when he has become an expert at this part of his game, if he then learns to go looking for the ball, and finding other players, drawing players towards him, it'll be a new dimension. At the moment we need him to do this because Richarlison and James are so different.

The criticism was definitely understandable when he was going 10 games without a goal. But the argument of the DCL fans (myself included) is that he's a young player who's stats are improving every year. And the haters didn't want to accept that.

A lot of strikers score in streaks, Lukaku was the same to a degree. If Dom scores 8 in 8, then goes 8 games without a goal, then scores 8 in 8 again (and repeat), he will be right up there for the Golden Boot.

As a team we just need the other players to step up and score goals when Dom is going through a dry spell.

from football365 winners and losers:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin
A striker transformed under Carlo Ancelotti, who now has the first hat-trick of his senior career. Calvert-Lewin was already the best header of the ball in the Premier League, but the improvement in his ability to find space and his finishing have jumped forward under the Italian. That speaks of some tremendous coaching.

The numbers are a little ridiculous. Since Ancelotti was appointed, only one Premier League player has had more shots on target and for most of that period Everton didn’t possess a functioning midfield. To back up the heading praise, Calvert-Lewin has six more headed shots than any player in the league over that period.

With Lucas Digne’s set-piece delivery, James Rodriguez supplying crosses from the right in open play and Richarlison an almost equally adept header of the ball, Everton have their new masterplan. Who said direct football and crossing can’t be sexy?

When you’re good at set pieces, you don’t necessarily have to play well to steal an undeserved point or 3 especially away from home...would look very dangerous from corners and free kicks this year. Good - the best teams always take advantage of dead ball situations
