You are right with your option off the bench, but that’s all I see him as. If we have aspirations to crack the top 6, you only have to look at the calibre of player our rivals possess in attack.
City - Aguero
RS - Salah
Arsenal - Aubameyang
Spurs - Kane
United - Lukaku.
All of these players can score 20+ goals a season. Of course we can’t attract players of that calibre or price tag, but if we could get someone in who could get us 15 goals a season it would narrow the gap that exists.
Not contradicting you but just adding that almost all of these players have been written off as not good enough at a club until something clicked. Many professionals rate DCL so I think at his age he’s worth developing.

Joe royal was 16 mate not 21
Right my hero made his debut at 16 at the famous defeat at Blackpool where the Catt got jostled by blue fans.... then was dropped - 4 appearances in -
1965/1966 2 appearances playing no 8 and no 9- no goals
1966/67- playing no 8 scored 3 goals
1967/68 - mainly playing playing no 9 20 goals in all competitions -the GV was moved to no 7 position....
1968/69 - 42 starts playing every game no 9 -29 goals
1969/70 42 starts no 9 -23 goals = champions
1970/71 40 starts no 9 - 23 goals
1971 / 72 26 starts no 7 and no 9 - 9 goals
1972/73 14 starts 7 goals - back injury
1973/74 18 starts 2 goals - sold to Man City
No comparison to DCL -in fact his goalscoring was better than Lukaku - he played in a team with the holy trinity and a great winger in Moggsy - he worked so hard - his early days he got stick from the terraces..... with that record only Sharpy and Dixie out scored him.......
as a youngster he did get game time ......from 1967 onwards......

I do think Richarlinson will be the player we can stick alongside some on that list though, if he continues to improve.

I saw him score 4 on his debut for Bristol City against Middlesborough mate.

He had a good career with Man City too........
I hated his replacement in Latchford - totally different no 9s - one in Joe hard working the Latch a great poacher of goals warmed to him though again the goals flowed for The Latch - when Dave Thomas became his supplier -
two great no 9s for the blues......
