Dominic Calvert-Lewin watch

This is our playbook now btw, but we’ve dropped Barry and Beto into the set up instead of DCL, who are isolated and chasing their own flick ons.

People slagging our current strikers need to wake up - they clearly have their deficiencies but we are not helping them.
Yeah, we have stopped playing to betos strengths which we were doing under Moyes last season by playing him in behind. Saying that, he also seemed to lose his physicality when he was getting starts at the beginning of the season and always seemed to be getting bullied by the CBs

Systems and styles make players imo. Certain players thrive in some teams due to the way they play and set up. Prime example being schevchenko, undoubtedly one of the most feared strikers in Europe, until he came to Chelsea. Think DCL is benefiting from the way Leeds set up as @Joey66 alluded to further up.

Wish Dom well no axe to grind here, but here he was hampered by injuries and lost confidence and it didn't help he played under numerous managers, some very defensive minded managers too boot. Also for, not including this year those managers and the remaining players had to deal with downgrading our team, letting good players go and buying/ loaning poorer players.

And then after Carlo we expected him to play on the halfway line, receive a long punt, have zero support and somehow score.

Play to his strengths, and shock, he scores goals.
He,s got strengths that our two alleged CF could only dream off, but he is injury prone maybe the toll of winning the ball in the air as a sole striker then trying to chase his own knock downs caused his injuries?
We wanted to keep him, but would not meet his wage demands - he indeed may of still struggled in our formation, but he had more class as a CF than the two we have now in so many ways, it would have been a big gamble to give him a massive pay rise with his injuries that kept him out for long periods.....
Leeds may get lucky with him as 4 4 2 suits him ..... Good luck to him buts let's see if he stays fit ?

But we would rely on a defence playing a high line and letting him have a run onto balls. This not playing to his strengths is silly imo.

The thing with DCL is that if you’re gonna have a striker who doesn’t score we’d of been better with him then Beto, against DCL is he could miss 10 games through injury, that’s the main reason to not of improved his contract and kept him, in my opinion, one that is fully justified, but in the 10 games that Beto plays whilst DCL is injured he also won’t score and more importantly, won’t hold the ball up.

We needed a good replacement - we failed TWICE.... In fact Ellis Simms looks better than the two we have & he is not up to the job either.....

100%, but there’s been a pathetic amount of hate towards DCL from people who have soft spots for Beto and to a lesser extent Barry (as he may still come good) Beto will never be good enough to play for Everton, he’ll never have a season like DCL did under Ancelotti and he’ll never be able to hold a ball up consistently.

It’s the classless way, a kid we signed from Sheffield United for a million quid, riles me. Evertonians should be better than that. We padded just shy of £30m for Beto and he’s absolutely crap.

But he does score. As he is proving.
