More applicable to our US based members.

I watched Food, Inc last night. I thought I knew the generals covering our food production, but I really didn't. I am not going to ramble on about it, but I highly recommend you guys watch it, and then find your local farm and buy your food from there.

People thought the tobacco industry couldn't be brought down and regulated, but we did it. To effect a change we need to vote with our wallets!

Local Harvest / Farmers Markets / Family Farms / CSA / Organic Food to find your local farms, nationwide!

I know what you mean! As a trainee food teacher, I am shocked at how many pupils dont know where the basic foods come from, such as bacon, ham, steak and chicken.

And dont get me started on how many pupils REFUSE to touch raw meat!

My nephew refuses to eat vegetables because he says its covered in muck. This is the same kid who looks like he rides a scrambler in wet mud every day. He also wont eat pork chops or steaks because he says he doesnt like eating animals. So i said "what do you eat then? his reply was "mostly chicken"

How ever bad it is over there, the industrial food production industry over here is worse. In fact, it is the reason for the new anti-biotic resistant e-coli is prevelant, obesity and the poor treatment of workers of today.

Find the movie Food, Inc online and watch it. If you are in the USA and have netflix, it is available on demand to watch right now, for FREE(minus the netflix subscription cost ;) )

I can agree with you on that - theres a LOT more chemicals in Coca Cola and their poducts in the USA because said chemicals are banned in the UK. All you have to do is look at the colour of American Fanta and compare it to Bri'ish Fanta... the American version is a dark orange, and has a heavier viscosity (mouth feel), whereas the Bri'ish one is lighter in both colour and viscosity.

I suggest that you look on youtube for a programme called "Hugh's chicken run". Which is about battery farmed chickens... very emotional, but worth watching.

I hate touching raw meat, mrs parry inspired you eh? She was definately my favourite teacher!

you could say that! :P I always wanted to teach, it just took me forever to think about what subject. When I was in elfed it was either history or food... food won! :D lol.

It is the use of unnatural food coloring and High Fructose Corn Syrup instead of natural coloring and sugar.

Corn is the root of all evil. We produce corn so cheaply in the USA through government subsidies that it is cheaper of other countries to ship our corn in rather than grow it themselves. Take Mexico for example, hundreds of thousands of farmer lost their jobs because of our corn production and exports.

Corn is in pretty much 90% of everything today. Most food is rebranded, prepacked corn that is modified for flavor, texture and appearance.
