That's fine, obviously. I was responding to a specific point questioning why people would have sports channels because it ends up with money going to Liverpool. Your example is absolutely nothing to do with that and so is - once again - completely irrelevant.

I don't know if you're confused about my stance on this because you seem determined to try and trip me up. I have no strong feelings either way on people who watch Liverpool games. I was genuinely surprised to find that actively not watching them was a thing because I have never come across someone in real life who has admitted to doing that, and I'm therefore quite interested in the discussion, but I am perfectly happy for people to make their own decision on what they would like to watch on TV.

Not at all, I just found the bold strange, like you'd lived under a rock.

I don't watch Emmerdale but I don't actively not watch it, I just don't have that channel on when it's one. Doesn't mean I'm actively not watching Emmerdale, same way loads of us that don't watch Liverpool aren't actively not watching them, we're just doing something else or have another of our many channels on when they're on.

Like I don't think "ffs it's 12.30pm I'd best turn my TV off, they're playing today"

No by 'actively not watching them' I mean making a conscious decision not to watch them. You make a conscious decision not to watch Emmerdale too, it isn't a coincidence that you don't have that channel on when it's on, it's a choice you're making.

My entire family are blues and probably 50% of my mates are. I'm a 'local' fan. On that basis I definitely haven't lived under a rock, I know a hell of a lot of Everton fans and none of the have ever told me that they make the decision to never watch Liverpool, so I'm surprised by this revelation. I'm not doubting it's true, I'm genuinely interested and wondering whether some of the people I know do this and I just never realised.

This is the bit that seems to be confusing some people, and I can't quite see why.

I don't actively go out of my way to watch their games, I just have no major aversion to watching them when they're on. If they're playing Norwich at home and are likely to win 8-0 then I would tend not to watch it because I wouldn't find it enjoyable. If they're playing in a game that is likely to be decent and I have the opportunity to watch it then I will. I have sports channels because I like watching sport, refusing to pay for sports channels because some of the money they make ends up in the hands of Liverpool's owners would be the exact type of weird over the top behaviour I was talking about earlier.
Tbh I have no interest in subscribing to sports channels.

I don't watch much footy at all now, usually just our games if I haven't gone. Don't even watch MoTD really, i'll just watch the highlights on YouTube if there is a result I've seen which I wouldn't mind seeing the goals.

Used to go out to watch the match with my mates, some of whom are reds, didn't bother me going out to watch them. I'd pretty much ignore the match unless they were losing, anyway.

If I'm lay on the settee or in the pub and there's a match on I'll likely half watch it or have it on in the background while doing other things. That's regardless of whether it's the RS or anyone else. Sometimes I'll watch them in the CL of an evening but that's generally 'cos Mrs CL is a red and she sometimes puts it on...it's an easy way to spend a couple of hours together chatting away and having our tea.

Everton are pretty much the only side I'll make time to sit and watch.

Yes, I watch them hoping they lose.

If it looks like they're not, I switch over and move on with my day.

Voted cheese though, effing love cheese.

I actively don't watch them. I cannot stand the sight or sound of them or their cheerleaders in the studio. It isn't a recent thing. The last time I watched a whole Liverpool game was the Istanbul final. I only recognise Liverpool players because the media coverage is so widespread.

I only watch Everton really, but I would actively avoid watching them, not because they're successful but because they behave like a cult and due to the media sycophancy.

I watch them in Europe because there's more chance of them getting humped and the refs aren't so biased. Sadly, they'll win on Tuesday though.
