Player Valuation: £8m
With all the talk of peanut and possibly rodwell going, it got me thinking do we get too attached to players who have no real loyalty to the club and are just a commodity in the business that is football.

Dunno if this is another random thread , but , yes .
I , for one , will shed a tear the day that Timothy Joel Cahill is no longer an Everton player .
And Bally , of course .

if you look back to the summer and the whole lescott saga alot of people were very pro lescott until he left then became very anti lescott same as rooney the boy was a messiah who became a judas when really both were just ambitious footballers looking to better themselves.

Yeah, when Barmby decided he wanted to join the [Poor language removed] it felt like a member of my family had died. I was still a kid at the time & so didn't really know what life was about but I remember discussing it with my mate & at the time that's how much it hurt

When Big Dunc left and retired, I was gutted, I imagine I would feel the same When Cahill, Arteta or Fellaini leave.

There are two main factors imo.

1. If they're local and Everton fans especially

2. If they're any good.

It hurt when Rooney went coz he was a local lad, a dyed in the wool blue and he was (is) fekkin mustard.

The likes of Piennar and Cahill would hurt simply coz they offer us something on the pitch. In Tim's case he does seem like a lifelong blue aswell so it would sting a bit more

I wouldn't want (or expect) it to happen, but if we sold Hibbert to Utd or City, how many people would be professing hatred toward the lad. Even if Moyes didn't want to sell and he asked for a move after seeing the interest (and money) shown.

Kid , it was bad . Very bad , but not Bally , bad . I promise you .

Bally was SOLD on Dec 22nd , 1971 . I was an 8 year old - I'd been going for nearly five years by that stage - .
Xmas that year , was a brand new amber away kit , no. 8 - I was singularly left footed - , and a pair of spanking , white , Hummel , Alan Ball boots .
I actually took 2p and attempted to ring Harry Catterick . May I not wake up tomorrow if I'm telling lies .
Devastated , doesn't quite say it , lad .
Oh , and Bally cried upon leaving , and also , Dec 22nd is me Ma's birthday .
That year was a total wash-out .

Everon , eh ???

Decent thread to be honest.
I think we definitely get too attatched to players, and yes, they actually are a commodity when said and done.
The problem is that they carry our ambitions, emotions, and memories on their shoulders each time they run out, but they are paid handsomely to do so.

I would only be truly gutted though if Moyes left.

I get far too attached, the amount of times i've cried over Duncan, happy and sad tears, is bordering on pathetic

For any team, regardless of sport, there are players that the fans connect with on a personal level and vice versa.

Venture to say Cahill loves Everton as much as Everton loves him. IMO the only player on the side right now this could be said for. Howard possibly but Cahill is true Blue.

Moyes - I think he loves being at Everton now - it's a great challenge to get results with the financial handicaps he's got to deal with. He's a brilliant manager and if he feels he can't win silver at Everton because of money (not his or the player's efforts), he's off and who could blame him.

If Everton were on the verge of relegation, Cahill would go down with the ship. Not many others would.

We love Pienaar because of his work rate and skill, not because he loves Everton.

Yes people do get attached to players. We all have our heroes and our favourites. Do we get too attached? Probably. Personally I wouldn't have it any other way.

i would say neville too, we all know he's a united fan but i truely believe he loves Everton, and like any decent captain would - he would also go down with his ship! All we want is loyalty, and the ones we love tend to be!!

Worse day of my life I cried my eyes out. The Arse of all places. I had the white boots and played on my teams both at Hudson School and Deyes lane.
