OK...can't think of too many near death experiences...probably the closest:
I was visiting my grandfather in Oregon on a sunny Spring afternoon. He thought it would be a good idea to drive up in the mountains to this little town he liked going to. Seemed like a good idea. Anyway, about an hour and a half up the mountains we come around a corner, and hit a patch of ice. He completely loses control of the car, and we barrel right into the side of the mountain head on. The airbags deploy and all that...we were probably going 45 mph when we hit. Anyway, that wasn't the worst part. After collecting ourselves (probably within a few seconds), we make sure we are OK, and get out. We are standing on the shoulder of the road when we look up to see this big ass truck coming around the same corner. He was going pretty fast, and totally lost control. My grandfather had survived a couple of strokes at this point in his life, so to say he wasn't very mobile is an understatement. In that split second, we both run across the road to get behind the guard rail. I don't know how he moved so fast. Anyway, the truck slams into the passenger side of the car. If I would have still been in there I would have been toast. Thankfully dude in the truck was OK, and had flairs to slow down the traffic coming around that corner. We end up calling a tow truck, and everything was fine. My lower back was screwed up for a couple of months.
