Howdidlydo, fellow Toffees!

Just having a chat with a Spurs fan mate about Dixie Dean & how phenomenal he must've been. Just wondering if anyone has any idea who was the second highest scorer in the 1927/28 season he bagged the legendary 63 (including Cup goals)? Remember seeing the full top scorers list from that season on the net 5 odd years ago & he was 20-odd ahead of the next best, which is an argument clincher regarding his achievements in standing with his peers (you know, the often-heard Redshite response that there was a lot more goals scored, no offside, etc).

Anyways, any ideas? Scoured the net & Toffeeweb but can't find a scrap. Any help greatly appreciated.

Second highest for Everton in Dixies 60 1927/28 season was Troup, with 10.

No idea who was second in the entire league rankings.

Its a fact that more goals were scored back then, so somebody did the maths on every season of top flight football to find the relative share scored by the leading scorer: Total goals scored/total games divided by numbers of goals scored by the leading scorer.

No need to say Dixie were heads and shoulders above the next man.

this is from the fishy site........

At end of this historic season Everton did a tour of Switzerland playing Basle, Berne , Zurich and Geneva winning all four games to packed stadiums . Dixie scored five more goals making his tally to 100 for the season .At the end of the season supporters presented him with a silver plate inscribed with all the teams he scored his goals against (29 games in all) it was Dixie’s most cherished possession. For the anoraks Dixie’ scoring record was as follows for that scintillating season, never to be repeated unless they change the rules.
Five goals in one game, four in another five three’s, fourteen two’s and eight singles.

Just did tha maths myself for Deans season v last season:

27/28: Total goals scored: 1765 - Deans share: 3,4782%

08/09 Total goals scores: 942 - Deans share: 33 goals top scorer: Anelka 19 goals
