Distin A Doubt – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club

Sylvain Distin has added to Everton's defensive problems.
The Frenchman has a hamstring problem and is doubtful for the game against AEK.
It adds to the growing defensive selection problems facing manager David Moyes, with Lucas Neill and John Heitinga ineligible and Joseph Yobo ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Jack Rodwell is also unlikely to return on Wednesday night despite being in the travelling party to Greece.
Shane Duffy and Shkodran Mustafi are the only fully fit centre-halves - though Tony Hibbert could deputise.
The manager does look likely to have Louis Saha available, however.
The full press conference from Athens will be available to view on evertonTV later tonight (Tuesday).

REPENT!!! FOR HE WILL SMITE THEE AND DEAL THEE BLOWS THAT CONNOT BE DEALT WITH!!!

Bugger.

Like the snowy background GOT.

A back 3 of Gosling, Hibbert & Baines would be interesting, possibly even exciting.

Lol, not the words I would use!

Give our young center backs a go.
That is why we bought them after all.

Reckon Distin will make it, maybe on painkillers/injections. Back four of Gosling, Hibbo, Distin, Baines. Otherwise Rodwell for Distin. Just hope it doesn't get exposed ala Benfica! :(

Both Distin and Rodwell are doubtful. If they're out I would be tempted to play the two young ones together, rather than try to stick Hibbert in the middle with one of them and Gosling at RB - he and Baines would be playing in their correct positions and the two new ones would at least be used to playing together.

Gosling on the right can help out defensively and Pienaar is good at tackling back on his side. Fellaini, Billy and Cahill up the middle, with Saha or Jo up front. At least then we can try and channel them through the middle where there's help at hand rather than getting stuffed on the wings like the Benfica nightmare.

It'll probably be Rodwell and Hibbert.

Cant see Moyes playing Duffy or Mustafi....although putting Hibbert and Mustafi/Duffy in with Rodwell in the midfield (or playing as a support 3rd centre half) would seem a better option IMO.

But FFS we only have to win this and hope Benfica win to go through!

If Duffy is good enough to go center back for his National team, then he is good enough to fill in when we have injuries.[/

This.

That's why Everton bought them. I'd love to see Mustafi get a run out but this game is vitally important to moving on in Europe so I can't see him playing. Rodwell and Hibbert (can't believe I just wrote that) is probably the most solid duo Moyes can put out at CB.

I would like to see at least one of Duffy/Mustafi start. It's good experience, and we'll get a chance.

I feel though that our best chance will be to keep hold of the bloody ball, and not inviting pressure.
