Transfer Rumour Diego Rolan

Anyone saying that this being our signing after weeks of Mata, Witself etc. isn't underwhelming is lying to themselves.

No idea what he's like, never heard of him, but regardless it isn't the statement signing we badly need. Indeed, it's a business as usual signing.

Yeah I know, not every signing has to be eye catching, but... I understand why people wouldn't exactly be thrilled by the prospect of this one.

It isn't like we are signing them for their form or great records mate. All too old to be considered 'one for the future' as well.

So is it too off the mark to think we are signing these sorts of players in the hope they become good rather than them being good? Rodriguez didn't get near the first team so clearly martinez was hoping he would turn up at finch farm and score for fun for the reserves.
Well i think it was pretty obvious from the outset that Rodriguez wouldn't be ousting Lukaku from the team. I'm pretty sure i remember reading that he'd been a late comer to pro football so he wasn't as far down the development route as many players his age. He was clearly a punt which cost us virtually nothing - no harm done.

This is obviously a completely different signing. Other than them being from the same country there is absolutely no comparison. We're talking about signing a lad who was apparently very highly rated as a junior, is playing regularly in a European league, has numerous international caps for a top tier nation, and has not long turned 23. He's also supposed to cost a similar amount to Jordan Ibe and Matt Ritchie. But it's not good enough for some people. Bizarre.

It's the sort of signing Sunderland or Southampton would make. Can you imagine Spurs or Liverpool desperate to sign him? That's what level we are looking to compete with.

Are we desperate to sign him? I haven't seen anything to suggest that, simply that we were linked with him.

Seeing as Spurs and Liverpool tend to just sign the same players Southampton signed but for vastly inflated sums, I'd actually be very happy if he's the sort of player Southampton would sign. I've never seen him play, so he might be awful for all I know, but neither have most people on here so I don't know why they're so quick to decide it's not a good signing.

Rolan would be a decent signing as back up, IMO. Got no issue with it and he can play a variety of positions.

We'll get better in this summer, though. Of that I'm confident.

In that respect mate, are matt richie and jordan ibe good enough for us at that price?
