I'm genuinely wondering how many people supporting the idea of signing him have watched him play at all in the past few years.

There's a reason why Suarez, who signed with Atletico because he himself was well past it, took over his spot pretty much from day 1, and they've improved as a result. Costa has been absolutely useless for a couple years now. This is the third consecutive league season where he's scored exactly 1 goal in open play.
