Draw denies Fury world title

It's easy to get wrapped up in the controversy but let's give Fury his due on that performance after everything he's been through.

He was absolutely remarkable for a good 90% of the time there. Not quite like he'd never been away but very close to that man who schooled Klitschko.

In the end (bent judges aside) I think it was probably the slightest bit of rust that cost him the win, but many didn't give Fury much of a realistic chance, so for him to get so close was amazing.

Of course we all want to see the dream outcome, but I'm confident he can do it in a few months time when he's in better shape, further down the line in his recovery, studied the first fight and maybe in front of a home crowd.

How Wilder reacts to this will be interesting. I believe Wilder viewed Fury as a busted flush who'd be a nice name to get on his record, so the fact he couldn't take him out - despite landing his bombs, could shake him mentally.

Home town decisions have always been an issue, if Fury gets the rematch he'll more than likely win even more conclusively.

Its always been a major problem but finance is often at the bottom of it and rather than award it to Fury they possibly like the idea of a lucrative rematch better, tbf hats off to the boxing journalists (and bookmakers who all gave Fury a realistic chance), none of whom I read dismissed Fury's chances at all even if they tipped Wilder.

My paper's correspondent had Fury by four rounds, but said he was well up

Far too much boxing ability for the other two big heavyweights around and will be even more formidable further into his comeback

You could see if a scorer gave the close rounds all to Wilder and with the knockdowns how it could just be close, but for Rochin to score it four points to Wilder is way out, just blatantly corrupt.

The rematch is perhaps not so certain as people now generally expect, Wilder may well look at chasing a Joshua fight as far more preferable to risking a rematch with an even better prepared Tyson Fury who now perhaps looks the one to avoid if at all possible.

It really does look as though Wilder would rather face AJ than risk any rematch, possibly wise as Fury would be further into his recovery and with a world championship fight behind him this time.

So Joshua and a reunification of all the belts must be preferable for Wilder

It's where the big money is.

Another fury fight and a bigger chance of losing his belt and cash cow is not worth the risk now

My immediate post fight thoughts were exactly that . Joshua is huge and brings huge money to the table , if you going to take a risky fight which fury now is you might as well take the one with a huge purse .

I did hear Freddie roach talking about a rematch clause so I don’t know the strength of that .

I think they're planning to appeal to the WBC to look at Rochin's scoring, the first four rounds all to Wilder, and order a rematch.

(possibly suspending or warning Rochin too)

It's theoretically possible but money will always persuade them or any board and I can't see them lifting a finger.

From what I read today in The Times there was a re-match clause for either man winning, but not for a draw.

Just watched the last round knockdown again. The ref doesn't start counting for 2 secs and fury is up at 9!
The ref doesn't start the count. On official starts the count outside the ring while the ref directs the other fighter to a neutral corner. Then he returns to the downed fighter and picks up the count from outside.

I honestly don’t think there was a gap on the counting. If you look at the clock on a replay, it is 10/11 seconds from punch to an upright fury.

That said, I honestly don’t think he was sparko. He was on his way down off that right, in a semi decision like fall, like in the 9th. The left wasn’t clean, and just motioned him in a different direction to the canvas as he was already decided on going down. The skewed left follow up didn’t put him away in my opinion.
