I havnt commented about this match yet so here goes...

What was so good about this match? There was no neville or hibbert, jagielka was at RB and cahill was back in the midfield. All of this meant NO HOOFING!

Our back four were great against derby, jagielka at right back made his case for staying in the team, and he's been the best in that position - he cant suceed in the midfield!!. Lescott played in his favoured centre back role which makes the defence strong, but we get less of his boss runs :(.

With jagielka - a more passing player - at right back he didnt hoof the ball up to yakubu or cahill, he linked up really well with arteta and cahill. With cahill in the midfield we had more passing play again!. With all of this passing...yakaubu played well!! :O. It was a great team agaisnt derby. Hopefully Moyes has learnt some things!!

Watched the highlights last night for the first time and was really impressed with the football we played. Im not going to get carried away by wins against Larissa and Derby but its looking good and although Ive been critical.....[Poor language removed] it, Ill start a thread.

mate i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure you're mistaken about lescott, i thought he played left back for that game, which is why we didn't have his presence in the centre on corners (which we could have definetely used), but he had a couple good plays from the wing. What i noticed though is that boy simply can't produce a cross, or rather he doesn't want to try to. Hopefully when we get more players back on defense he can move back to playing centre back.

oh no please don't!

he started in the middle then went to left back at half time when baines got injured so 50/50 realy!

ah okay my mistake I didn't see the full first half so i was a little mixed up, but i guess that would make sense since baines is a left back, someimtes i jus don't think it through  . anyways i think lescott is much more of an attacking threat in the centre, his runs along the wing are fun to watch but i've yet to see him produce a cross, and i enjoyed his class nutmeg late in the game, but i really doubt we're going to get any goals off play like that, whereas we can always count on him putting headers away.

Lescott produces balls from wide areas in a pacey way. When he crosses them they are direct on the floor as when he attacks any balls in the air would normally be too fast for anyone to reach. Anyone remember the game when he strided up the left twice and slid the balls in about 25 yards and resulted in goals. I think it was towards the end of last season.

Interesting - I just spoke with a Derby fan who saw the game on TV. He thought that we outplayed Derby as much as any team has, bar Arsenal, but just didn't finish them off the way the [Poor language removed] and spurs did. He thought we looked stronger than those two.

That was the 4-1 win v Fulham.

ah yea i remember that against fulham, but i feel like that game was largely a result of fulham breaking down and that Lescott would still be better in the centre, though with baines missing we might not have that option. should we move neville back to defence (where i believe he should have stayed) so we can continue to play lescott at Centre back?
