What are you basing this off of? Was very good in the Euros which I’m sure is the only time most have watched him with any real intent.
I like to see RBs/LBs that have:
- excellent close control when in possession in tight locations especially when recovering the ball while facing their own goal and under a press from the offense.
- ability to contain the dribbler to the outside, while remaining close enough to press a challenge on loose touches while not being beat inside and good reactions to stop the cross.
- good positioning on set pieces, and awareness for runners coming in off the shoulder when the squad is shifting to defend the opposite flank.
I am all for attacking fullback play (specifically when their two footed and present a challenge cutting inside as well as getting to the byline) but they must be defenders first in my mind.
In what I have seen of Dumfries he is more of a pacey athlete that has a haphazard touch and is much more suited for attacking aspect of fullback play then defending. In fairness, I only recall seeing him play for PSV twice so I could be off in my assessment.
