Firstly, the poor lad had a terrible time early in life, nobody deserves that.
Secondly, it’s very understandable to want to block out those feelings and memories as a young lad who has nobody to talk to about these things and is constantly in the papers so I can totally see how sleeping pills could look a good option, a lot of high profile celebrities have similar additions.
Really brave of him to get help and then come out and share his story and I believed every word he said was from a place of positivity, not blame on anyone else.
From a selfish point of view, he clearly appreciates Everton and what we’ve done, gave respect to Dyche and said he wanted to be even better than he was before - he sounded hungry and said a few times he loves the game.
If he gets a fresh start, becomes close to what he was before and we have to pay £20m this season because he hits a couple of clauses he will be worth it 100%.
I’d love him to succeed here against all odds and I think a man to man coach like Dyche could be perfect for him at this stage in his life.
