Am I naive for thinking Vellios showed enough when he got on to have Moyes thinking about starting him against Wigan?

Our new super-duper Under-24 front six is genuinely worth getting excited about. I think we have better strength in depth than we give ourselves credit for, with the obvious exception of center forward of course.

Coleman--Fellaini--Rodwell--Drenthe
--------------Barkley--------------
---------------Vellios--------------

Phwoar.

It would be good to see Vellios get a longer run, but a start might be premature in my opinion. Any chance Saha is back for Wigan unless he sneezes funny and ruptures both achilles'?

No wonder Moyes doesn't get along with strikers. It would of been the perfect opportunity to give Vellios his full debut. His cameo appearances since last season have been impressive. With two strikers leaving and Anichebe/Saha injured, surely even Vellios would of thought he was a chance at starting. How is it that Moyes puts faith in a 17-yr old to start 3 games while an older and more experienced player is given a handful of minutes?

the reason why we never improve our lead is because we change tactics after we score, we stop playing keepball and start going long, this gives the opposition more ball and they make more chances. its quite easy to sort it out. If you go one nil up playing good one touch football carry on doing whats working and go for a second. somebody needs to tell moyes and the players this well kept secret!!,

Dear David,

Today's performance on the whole was not too bad, we were robbed and by viewing the villa forums the wholly agree.

However I feel this could have been avoided by doing something a little crazy... PLAYING A STRIKER!!!

Cahill is not a striker and he offers nothing to the team but an increased foul ratio, the teams balance is seriously effected by playing him. Cahill is past his best and his qualities (or lack of) are now well known by all teams in the premiership.

We had two forwards on the bench, and when one finally arrived on the pitch he gave the team a better balance and we actually looked a little more dangerous. Villa are not a big team and we should be playing two up top against poorer position like this.

The answer to our poor goal return is undoubtedly the fact old, past it midfielders are given a strikers role for no good reason.

cahill offers great link up play with the midfield thats what he does

I wasn't happy with the team selection, however we played well and Cahill had a good game. Defensive mistakes cost us yet again so i don't understand why Cahill is getting the blame. Drenthe looked sharp when he first came on when he is match fit he will probably start. Vellios was excellent coming off the bench, yes I would like to see him given a chance from the off. I don't like 4-5-1 never have never will, its negative and at times boring, having said that we played very well yesterday maybe that was our pay back for robbing blackburn.
