2017/18 Davy Klaassen

According to whoscored he has only started once in the AMC position - that was against Stoke and even then he had Wayne next to him as a second number 10. Here's their list of his starting positions so far this season.

Sub (Substitute) - 5
MC (Midfielder Centre) - 2
DMC (Defensive Midfielder (C)) - 1
AMC (Attacking Midfielder Centre) - 1
AML (Attacking Midfielder Left) - 1
AMR (Attacking Midfielder Right) - 1

The only game he started that is not included is the league cup v Sunderland as they don't have position stats for those, and I've drunk far too much wine since then to remember where or how he played in that match (we won 3-0).

Anyhoo I think it just suggests he's been the unlucky fall guy of some terrible planning last summer (thanks Mr Walsh!). I'm not judging him yet.

One other thing - if Marcel ever does turn up there is a chance he might want to build the team around Davy if he liked what he saw at Ajax.... Just sayin!

Silva and Mata both have pace over shorter distances. Silva in particular glides over the surface with great control.

Unreal: comparing this pudding Klaassen with two masters like Mata and Silva.

Don't agree. Love Mata as a player but as slow as they come.

I dont understand the latitude afforded him. I think it must be some thinking along the lines of: "he used to play for Ajax and we paid £25M for him so there must be something there. Let's give him yet another chance".

Completely bogus reasoning. Anyone with two eyes in their head sees a nothing player who Koeman paid about £20M too much for.
Had a chat with a couple of the lads sat by me at the match we were all shaking our heads about reaction he got. General consensus was he’s never good enough for Premier League and some fans have lost their critical faculties (polite version).

Rooney
Davies
Baningime
Vlasic
Schneiderlin
Bolasie

All been given chance after chance after chance, the fact of the matter is if he isn't given a fair go in his position while out of form or inexperienced players are then is it really his fault.

Do we need to play 2 defensive midfielders at every single home game?

Are we crying out for some forward play from the central of midfield?

Is Koeman and Fat Sam the type of coach who play to players and team strengths?

I think the fact we don't play him in the under 23 to help him gain match fitness and sharpness is simply criminal.

He needed time, he wants to play and based off today he never is fair better then some who have benefited from Fat Sam's complete lack of tactical knowhow.

He is this season Niasse and I hope he proves us all wrong.

I've nothing against Davvy but he's a very average footballer who hit the jackpot at his boyhood club. I remember watching his Youtube highlights just after he signed for Everton and feeling very underwhelmed.

He has been found out. I hope for the lads sake he can put this season behind him and make a swift return to Ajax.

3 managers who watch our players in training every days and are a lot more qualified than you are disagree with you.

These three top class managers you speak of have: gone into a premier league season selling a star striker and decided Calvert Lewin would he enough to play up top for us, the next feller decided it was a good idea to go to Lyon and play Lookman as a lone striker all while overseeing some of the most inept, embarrassing performances (and he has some competition), of recent times, and as for your third expert, he has loaned out Lookman and continue to play Bolasie. Do I really need to convince you about the foibles of our current incumbent?

But you keep banging that elitist drum, am sure you think we can’t disagree with all these “expert pundits “ because they have played at the top level too :hayee:

No, you don’t need to convince me that Koeman, Unsworth and Big Sam are Everton quality, that much is self evident.

However, loathe them all you like but these are still managers of a certain pedigree and every one of them has sidelined Klaassen, which signals a problem.

I’ve watched Klaassen get totally run off the ball at every home game he’s featured in. Completely off the pace and never contributed a thing.

It’s hugely apparent that he’s not going to fit in, but people like you believe that just because our other players are underperforming, he must be a better option. He just isn’t.

As for banging an elitist drum and agreeing with expert pundits, I’ve suggested nothing of the sort and frankly you’re talking absolutely garbage.

Thats absolute BS. Theres no way BFS watches Bolasie in training every week and still plays him on the weekends.

Hes somewhere in an office eating his fill during training.

The reality is Klaassen would have been one of our best midfielders all season based on the play of our midfield this year. Sad? Yes, but true. His passing and vision is top notch, but its obvious he doesnt fit a side that doesnt make runs because he does not create for himself. Some of us have watched enough football to spot good players even when they dont fit the Bolasie-Full-O-Tricks-So-Must-Be-Awesome mold. Given a team of quicker players who like to make runs he will have 5-6 goals and 10+ assists. I.E. Lookman, Onyekuru, Walcott.
