2017/18 Davy Klaassen

He must want out of this nightmare badly. Surely the club didn't hand all £25M over to Ajax? It'd be nice to think we could cut our losses at £5M or something and allow him back there to play in a league more suited to his limited abilities.

Dream on! I’m guessing we at least doubled his wages.

With the 2 recent signings we should give him another try at no 10. I think now the players around him would suit him more.

As others have pointed out, we already have Gylfi for that role who is 100% proven in the premier league and does not have to adjust to the pace.

I reckon a spell on loan somewhere maybe to get used to the pace of English football could work, if there is a deal to be done with a club, might be difficult though.

I think they’d maybe suit him less. Tosun we don’t know, but he looks willing to come in and link play which is obviously a bonus for any 10. Walcott, however, just wants to run in behind. Given that Klaassen seems to like playing one touch passes, get rid of it quite quickly then get it back, I can’t see that helping.

For me, he’s shown absolutely nothing to deserve a place over Sigurdsson, who’s wasted on the left, or Rooney who will still play there. Even if it’s just a “chance”.

Theoretically, nail on head that. The English Prem is now stuffed full with athletic Amazonian types that have no little skill but not in the main the technique of a Klaassen. I honestly have hardly seen Klaassen play - except for a couple of games in last year's Europa where he and Ajax shone all the way to the final - and that's what I still just don't get.

By all accounts Klaassen was the beating heart of that team. They (and Dutch football in general) may be a shadow of their former selves, but that campaign, on a European level, was effective and won plenty of games. So they were ultimately undone - comfortably - by United, and perhaps that's telling...

The Dutch equivalent of a Leicester? But surely Klaassen simply doesn't overnight become incapable of doing what he then did??

It's as puzzling as it is fristrating...
Looking at their path through they had in reality a couple of tough games where they needed to out perform beyond their norm: Schalke and Lyon. Both very close ties too.

Klaassen is pretty much nothing as a player for the position we bought him for. He got his plaudits playing much further back for Ajax in a position that required no real pace. The £25M paid could have been used to bring Leroy Fer here (who isn't top class but I think has done well since arriving here). He'd have done a better job and we could have saved about £15M.

Is our worst ever buy?(amount paid compared with what he has produced)

Every side he's played for up until now has been relegated

Swansea look set to continue that trend

But, in theory, yes - a big, physical and athletic player suits the Prem more.

He's looked a threat for whoever he played for. As said, not top class, but as a cheap addition to a midfield that adds some punch he'd have been way better than Klaassen.

I thought he was one of their top goal scorers??

We paid £25m for this fella.

He won't be getting shipped off (maybe on loan but I really doubt it).

We need to stop having knee jerk reactions - it takes time to settle into a new league. It happens so often...

He's a smart player, with more mobile players around him (Walcott, Bolasie, Tosun) I'm sure he would be brilliant.
