I suppose it's unfair to project onto one game in terms of Klaassen. He did ok, he wasn't bad at all. But you can see the limitations already. Its one thing not being up to the physicality of the PL - that can be adjusted to over a fairly short period; but it's entirely different if you dont have much pace - that cant be learned or acquired, you either have it or you dont. For me, anyone operating in that area of the pitch has to have that burst of pace that takes you past a challenge or two. If you dont have it you have a player on your hands who will simply recycle the ball a lot...which is what we witnessed last night I think.

Davies isn't the fastest either though. Think there is a lack of pace in the team at the minute. It'll soon change when your hero bolasie gets back

Tbf, I thought he should have scored last night (hit the side netting)

That's the issue for me we were told he is a good finisher yet he has fluffed two good chances to score and the manager is all about productivity so if he doesnt score or assist then he wont play.

Pace in todays game: you dont have it then you cant do a thing worth doing.

Define pace, dave.

There is pace, as in running like a gazelle.

And there is pace as in the ability to beat an opponent and get away from them and continue the play for your team.

To glibly say 'pace' trumps everything else is facile, and basiclaly not a logical premise. Today's football is NOT pace 100% and no skill...

That one. I see him play and hardly see evidence he can skip away from a challenge and buy time. He gets shut far too quickly for me. Maybe he's taught that at Ajax, but when his manager compares him to Xavi he better have some of the masters attributes to back it up.

Passing soon after he gets it.

You never heard of "La Pausa"?

The best playmakers all had/have that: the ability to hold and hold until the movement ahead is in place for the killer pass.

To do that you have to be able to screen and/or ride a challenge to maintain possession. Klaassen hasn't got it.

Klaassen is not a playmaker. Not really fair to judge him as one. He is more the endproduct than the creator. He doesn't dictate the game with his passing like a Pirlo. He is the guy who brings energy and will press oponents. Now if that is what Everton really needed is a different discussion.

Klaassen' best position is as a RCM in a 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-2. Playing with both Gana Gueye and Schneiderlin is too defensive and doesn't get the best out of Everton IMO. You need pacey wingers.

I agree and have stated myself that Gueye + Schneiderlin is belt and braces. However neither will be left out too much - regardless of opposition faced. That presents us with the nub of the problem. We cant squeeze in another defensive minded CM and, imo, he isn't suited to play off a striker, not in this league and for reasons already argued.

He is going to be an almighty headache to find a use for.
