Hark at Confucius here. He's the sort of player that quickly shows up who actually knows anything about football.
If you can't see what this guy has got, the game might not be for you. A real thinking man's footballer.
Hark at Confucius here.
Last night underlined how sluggish we are. I dont think it's a lot to do with fitness either. We have no pace and adding Sigurdsson doesn't solve that...neither does losing Barkley.
Klaassen will be useless in the PL against teams sitting back. He just wont get the time to think and pick a pass out against most teams. He'll need to show he can at least win free kicks by screening the ball and being canny in the final third, because sure as eggs are eggs he wont be surging past many defences here.
Further back he isn't going to trouble either Schneiderlin or Gueye for their places.
Maybe he shows us something more as the months go by, but I have massive reservations over this signing.
Last night Rooney ended up doing that job.
Not once did Klassen pick the ball up from the defence and pick a pass which I thought he would do.
I didn't know what to expect from klaassen last night tbh as I've never seen him play.
Having heard his best qualities are getting goals from late runs into the box and assists, I feel he's going to be further up the pitch more often than not
How can you not see he's going to be quality for us in and around the box with that one touch passing. Doesn't matter what opposition you play, if you can pass and move like that you will always create and score.

I would be feeling very hard done to right now if I were Davies.Wayne Rooney gave up on him ten mins into the second half and went deeper and deeper to get the ball; he didn't trust Klaassen to link the play between midfield and attack. Essentially, the whole team bypassed him in the last twenty minutes and we went on the attack more and more.
He just doesn't seem to do anything that Davies wasn't already doing for £24m less. Feels a bit of a vanity purchase.
I suppose it's unfair to project onto one game in terms of Klaassen. He did ok, he wasn't bad at all. But you can see the limitations already. Its one thing not being up to the physicality of the PL - that can be adjusted to over a fairly short period; but it's entirely different if you dont have much pace - that cant be learned or acquired, you either have it or you dont. For me, anyone operating in that area of the pitch has to have that burst of pace that takes you past a challenge or two. If you dont have it you have a player on your hands who will simply recycle the ball a lot...which is what we witnessed last night I think.First game so can't give a full judgement. I just don't see, at the moment, what this guy gives us over Davies. Davies can pick a pass, moves the ball quickly, run past a man and has an eye for goal. He's still developing and will only get better. Side in general is woefully short of pace.
Passing quickly is sometimes a result of not being able to hold onto the ball or carry it. He passes too much if anything. Haven't seen his stats for the game but I bet he was our top passer on the night.
Kendall was still quite anonymous in his first 12 months performances with the club. And he wasn't exactly the swiftest of players either.
Pace is not the be-all-and-end-all of the game. Never has been. Never will. There's that other element to the game. What's it called? Oh yes, SKILL.
15 all. Over to you again, Dave.
