A club in the National League I'm sure is not the type of job he had in mind when he "left to pursue his managerial ambitions" or whatever.

Any likely chance he had of managing at a high(ish) level was ruined by the second spell as caretaker, the team was woeful yes but his gameplans were even worse. Still, didn't he get heavily linked with Oxford not long after who were in League One? A miles better gig than this.

It's his own fault to be honest, he should have moved on ages before but was too happy being Bill's boy and running the academy as if it were a separate club within in the club. Football moves fast, nobody remembers or cares about those youth titles anymore (if they ever did in the first place). Good luck to him all the same because he does seem to be a good man overall.

It's a really hard league to get out of.

For a club run as poorly as Oldham? Almost impossible.
